Short Line Railroads

Short line railroads move freight on shorter routes, often serving local industries and connecting cars to larger “interchange” railroads. Jobs commonly include train crew roles (engineer, conductor/brakeman), yard and switching work, dispatching, and track or equipment maintenance. Work is safety-sensitive and typically hands-on, with outdoor conditions and shift schedules; entry often requires railroad training and meeting medical/qualification requirements.
