This role will initially focus on learning and supporting Amber Mechanical – a $50M-$70M commercial mechanical services business - while developing deep expertise in project accounting, job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) management, financial reporting, operational finance, and financial planning & analysis. As the individual gains familiarity with the business, responsibilities are expected to expand across multiple operating companies within the region. The Regional Controller will partner closely with General Managers, regional leadership, and corporate finance to improve project profitability, strengthen financial discipline, standardize processes, and provide timely visibility into business performance. This individual will play a critical role in supporting growth, driving operational accountability, and helping build a scalable finance function across the region.\r\nKey Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Accounting Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for region.\r\nEnsure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.\r\nOversee general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, treasury, and accounting operations.\r\nSupport annual audits, tax compliance, and banking relationships.\r\nMaintain strong internal controls and accounting discipline.\r\nProject Accounting & Job Costing Own the accuracy and integrity of job costing across the business.\r\nMaintain and manage WIP schedules and revenue recognition.\r\nPartner with project managers and operational leaders to identify margin risks and improve project performance.\r\nAnalyze project profitability, labor productivity, change-order performance, and project cash flow.\r\nCash Flow & Working Capital Improve billing discipline and collections performance.\r\nMonitor cash flow, retainage, and working capital metrics.\r\nSupport forecasting and liquidity planning.\r\nFinancial Planning & Analysis Support annual budgeting and periodic forecasting across multiple operating companies.\r\nAnalyze business performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.\r\nDevelop KPI reporting and dashboards.\r\nPartner with GMs to understand performance versus budget and forecast.\r\nMulti-Entity Financial Leadership Support financial reporting and operational finance across multiple operating companies within the Midwest region.\r\nStandardize accounting, reporting, and financial processes across businesses.\r\nAssist with acquisition integrations, controls, and reporting alignment.\r\nDevelop scalable reporting packages and KPIs for regional leadership.\r\nSystems & Process Improvement Support ERP implementations, migrations, and integration initiatives.\r\nDrive standardization of accounting and operational finance processes.\r\nIdentify opportunities for automation and process improvement.\r\nQualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.\r\nCPA preferred.\r\n7–12+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.\r\nPublic accounting experience serving construction, mechanical contracting, engineering, or project-based clients strongly preferred.\r\nStrong understanding of job costing, WIP reporting, percentage-of-completion accounting, and project financial management.\r\nExperience with construction accounting systems and ERPs.\r\nExperience with budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, and financial analysis preferred.\r\nStrong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.\r\nDPO HVAC Mechanical Services is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
