CMM Technician
PurposeResponsible for part layout, developing CMM programming and dimensional reports from CMM data for the PPAP (production part approval process) review program. This includes sample parts, gage layouts, and final assembly annual recertification. Lead and or support area in continuous improvement efforts. Ensure quality products are delivered to customers and address customer concerns and issues. The department is structured as a formal team and requires the ability to work within the team.Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Part layout, CMM programming and PPAP’s.Set-up and check dimensions on parts, using metrology instruments, to ensure parts meet quality standards and that dimensions are accurate.Perform gage studies and capability studies.Develop gage instruction sheets and update as needed.Work on SPR (sample part requests) and assist technicians with set-ups.Calibration of equipment gages.Train employees in proper procedures and job skills.Check, sort, and file paperwork.Enter data into the computer from paper documents for record keeping purposes.Interface with the Quality Manager to address quality issues.Ability to act as liaison between the company and the customer.Assist in the development of Control Plans, FMEA’s and 8D’s.Continuous improvement activities support Red X / DOE activities.Problem solving.Various other duties as assigned.QualificationsQualificationsRequired Education & ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED.Technical degree in a related field preferred.Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.Ability to read various measuring devices.Experience operating a CMM.Basic computer knowledge.CompetenciesCMM software and programmingAbility to follow established proceduresStrong attention to detailMust be able to operate basic metrology instruments, optical comparator, hardness tester and Coordinate Measurement Machine.Calibration of equipment gages.Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC); stamping; GD&T with application and blueprint reading.Knowledge of welding specificationsProblem SolvingPerform sorts, audits or rework productsKnowledge of product and processesKnowledge of Quality standards – AIAG/ASQC, ASME, AITF16949Communication skills to communicate and interact with all levels of employees, customers and suppliersComputer skills and math skills sufficient to perform department related tasks as requiredAbility to work effectively with peopleSupervisory ResponsibilityHas no supervisory responsibilitiesWork EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a manufacturing environment.Physical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
