The Department of Employment Services (DOES) mission is to connect District residents, job seekers, and employers to opportunities and resources that empower fair, safe, effective working communities.About the RoleThe purpose of the position is to provide leadership, direction, and guidance to the DOES Office of Information Technology (OIT) staff performing customer service, administrative tasks, and technical support for telecommunications projects.ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the day-to-day supervision of subordinate staff.The incumbent provides supervision and guidance to subordinate staff by establishing work standards, designating work assignments, identifying developmental and training needs, and evaluating work performance.Plans and coordinates the work of subordinates, establishes priorities, and prepares schedules for the completion of work.Provides advice, guidance, consultation, and instructions to individual employees on both work and administrative matters.Approves/disapproves leave.Serves as a source of expertise providing advice and counsel to agency staff involved with various phases of project development.Evaluates progress on projects and makes or develops strong feasible adjustments to project plans as required.Serves as liaison on priority initiatives or projects, to varied departments with principal responsibility for increasing interdepartmental coordination, which results in the accomplishment to established goals and outcomes.Maintains a continuous review of project status and progress information and resolves technical and administrative conflicts that may arise.Keeps the supervisor informed of the status of the projects, deficiencies, outstanding accomplishments, and reasons why action performance deviates from that which was planned.Develops and recommends the means for correcting deficiencies or potential problems.Prepares progress reports and supplies detailed information regarding the status of work and highly technical comments on proposed courses of action requiring concurrence of higher authority.Coordinates the development, approval and implementation of internal plans, projects, procedures and reports.Coordinates with agency officials to obtain approval to proceed and ensures that vendors fulfill their contractual requirements; resolves complex, and/or mission critical problems.Assists and facilitates discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution; assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.QualificationsSpecialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.Degree from a four-year college or university and at least five years of supervisory experience preferred.Licensures, Certifications, and other requirements: None.
