Irrigation & Landscaping Specialist

Van Patten Golf Club is seeking an experienced Irrigation & Landscaping Professional to join our team at our 27-hole golf course in Clifton Park, NY. This full-time role is crucial in maintaining the course’s irrigation systems and landscaping, ensuring optimal playing conditions and a visually stunning environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in irrigation systems and be able to efficiently install, repair, and maintain irrigation systems for residential and commercial properties. The successful applicant will have excellent mechanical knowledge and the ability to operate hand and power tools safely and effectively. This is a hands-on role that requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing weather conditions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Irrigation Management Inspect, maintain, and repair the golf course's irrigation systems, including pumps, controllers, and sprinkler heads. Program and monitor irrigation schedules to ensure the turf and landscaped areas receive appropriate water coverage. Troubleshoot and resolve irrigation issues, minimizing water waste and ensuring efficient operation. Maintain accurate records of irrigation system maintenance and water usage. Landscaping Responsibilities: Oversee and execute the planting, pruning, and care of shrubs, trees, and other vegetation around the course. Design and implement landscaping projects to enhance the visual appeal of the golf course. Maintain flower beds, ornamental grasses, and other decorative plants. Manage weed control and fertilization of landscaped areas to promote healthy growth. Course Maintenance Support: Collaborate with the Superintendent and groundskeeping team to integrate irrigation and landscaping efforts with overall course maintenance. Assist with mowing and trimming as needed, ensuring all areas are well-groomed and presentable. Monitor turf health and report any signs of stress, disease, or pests to the Superintendent. Safety and Communication: Ensure all work is performed safely, following established protocols and guidelines. Communicate effectively with the team and management regarding irrigation and landscaping needs or issues. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Proven experience in irrigation system management and landscaping, preferably within a golf course or similar environment. Strong knowledge of irrigation system components and operation, including troubleshooting and repairs. Ability to operate landscaping equipment and tools safely and efficiently. Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of course appearance. Reliable attendance and punctuality. Ability to recognize and follow safety practices, with a focus on ensuring a safe working environment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a valid driver's license for operating company vehicles and equipment. Certification in irrigation or landscaping practices is a plus. Previous experience in golf course maintenance or a related field. PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT: Frequent standing, bending, lifting, and manual dexterity. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and handle lighter objects overhead, push/pull as required. Exposure to various weather conditions across all seasons (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer).
