About the Organization
Ferndale Community Services is a grassroots non-profit based in Ferndale that serves North Whatcom County. Our mission is to understand and alleviate unmet needs by providing resources and connection to create a thriving community where everyone is supported and valued, and their basic needs are met. We operate 7 programs to meet this mission, including the Community Resource Center where this position is based. We are a small organization with a start up environment, which requires flexibility, creativity, and a willingness to grow with us.
Position Description
The Community Resource Navigator is responsible for support service delivery for community members who visit the Resource Center. Identifies and assesses client need, builds trust, makes connections to community services and leverages internal supports available to help clients meet their needs and goals. Particular focus on housing support and navigation. Supports Executive Director and Resource Center Program Coordinator with operations of the Center and programs as needed and assigned.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
· Provide equitable direct services to visitors to the Resource Center including but not limited to assessment, goal setting, resource connection, direct services, and other connections to promote self-sufficiency.
· Provides housing navigation including assessment of current housing, housing search, referrals to housing programs, advocacy and coordination.
· Provide advocacy and follow-up with providers regarding referrals.
· Complete any necessary paperwork with visitors.
· Maintain paper and electronic files and maintain clear and accurate case notes in database. Responsible for creating reports as needed and reporting on outcomes for visitors.
· Support other FCS programs as assigned, including the Severe Weather Shelter. Be able to work on-call evening/overnight shifts if needed.
· Employ compassion and good boundaries to build strong professional relationships with visitors and community members that center lived experience and diversity.
· Build relationships with community service providers, businesses, and government entities as needed to enhance referral network for Resource Center visitors.
· Support with the training of Resource Center volunteers.
· Conduct regular case review with Executive Director and Navigation team.
· Represent the organization in the community.
· Actively participate in other projects or duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
· 2+ years experience working with people experiencing barriers to self-sufficiency, including immigrants, returning citizens, people experiencing mental health issues, and people with the lived experience of poverty and houselessness.
· Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Public Health, Non-Profit Management or related field or comparable professional work experience. Lived experience is valued.
· Experience with and knowledge of local community resources is preferred
· Fluency in Spanish required. Russian/Ukrainian preferred
Computer Skills
· Strong understanding of MS Office Suite, G Suite, and cloud computing
· Basic web development skills a plus
· Database and data entry skills
· Ability to learn new technology and software as related to the job
Physical Abilities
Able to safely lift/push/ pull up to 25 lbs., grasp, handle, manipulate items. Able to sit or stand for long periods of time. Able to communicate with others effectively, verbally and in writing; including those who have limited English skills, large and small groups, and individuals.
Maintain reliable attendance.

Work Environment
Office/service-center environment. Noise level is usually moderate. Frequent interruptions to be expected.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $52,000.00 - $57,000.00 per year
