Position Description POSITION: INFORMATION SERVICES TECHNICIAN reports to: INFORMATION SERVICES DIRECTOR PAY RANGE: 17.0 FLSA STATUS: NON- EXEMPT SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: NONE SCHEDULE: FULL-TIME Revision date: 6/22/2023 GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY: Under the technical direction and supervision of the Information Services Director, assists in all aspects of the Information Services Department as needed. Primary responsibilities are inventory control, repair and maintenance of computers and software, and maintenance of equipment and parts inventory. May also be required to perform clerical file maintenance, and equipment and inventory records. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: PERFORMANCE INDICATORS Installation and upgrade of both network and standalone systems, including hardware, software, and peripherals. PC troubleshooting, including diagnostics and repair, both via phone and onsite. Includes communicating effectively with inexperienced users. Organizing and maintaining work space, storage and supply areas. Assist with network administration duties including backup and restore operations, security management, network troubleshooting. Assist with departmental hardware and software stocking and inventory tracking systems, associated operational records, filing and data entry, as directed. Assist Information Services Director in research and purchase of equipment and software, as directed. Perform routine help desk functions with employees, both in person and on the telephone, with commonly used software. Perform other duties as needed within the Information Services Department, as assigned by the Information Services Director. SECONDARY FUNCTIONS: IT vehicle maintenance and organization Server data maintenance Active Directory maintenance Website content maintenance MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Experience with current versions of Microsoft Windows and Office 365. College level coursework in PC operations and repair, troubleshooting, in a network-based environment, or at least six months equivalent professional experience, which provides strong technical skills. College level coursework in word processing and spreadsheet use, or at least six months equivalent professional experience. Experience in dealing with people in an instructive, helpful environment. Bilingual Preferred (English/Spanish) Possession of valid California drivers' license; current personal vehicle insurance or safe driving record sufficient to ensure insurability through Agency policy. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Strong technical knowledge of operation, installation, repair and maintenance of PCs and network systems with peripheral equipment operations Knowledge of the computer industry and ability to remain current on all developments and progress in the field. Knowledge of diagnostic and troubleshooting routines on PCs and networks to determine cause of malfunctions, operational difficulties, or procedural problems affecting work production. Ability to analyze situations accurately and make sound judgments to resolve problems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and other departments. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and PC users, in sometimes stressful situations. Ability to prioritize work on a continuing basis while assuring that tasks and projects are completed on time. Ability to organize equipment and paperwork effectively and maintain filing and inventory systems. Ability to travel within geographic service area, as needed. Elementary knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database software. This job description is not a contract for employment. Duties may be changed at the Administrations discretion.
