ELECTRIC LINEMAN

Job DescriptionGENERAL PURPOSE: Incumbent performs but not limited to journeyman level work in construction maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution system and related facilities. Perform duties including but not limited to climbing poles and towers at various heights to repair or replace overhead conductors switches transformers fuses and other related equipment. Follows industry and City safe work practices and uses insulated tools ladders and platforms when working on or near energized circuits. Conducts maintains and repairs electrical distribution and transmission systems. Inspects and locates trouble in electrical apparatus replaces fuses and clears short circuits in lines. May use specialized equipment to locate electrical faults. Set poles and anchors strings wires attaches guylines and cross-arm units. Installs transformers switches insulators circuit breakers and streetlight fixtures; using hand tools. Reconstructs primary lines and hardware. Relocates or replaces electric wires phases out and activates new circuits opens switches to de-energize distributed or fallen lines to facilitate repairs or to remove electrical hazards repair street light circuitry. Locates and corrects electrical trouble in building circuits installs watt-hour meters and connects service drops between power line and consumer. Periodically patrols overhead electric power lines and report damage or defective power line equipment and facilities. Climbs poles to examine equipment not observable from ground and makes minor repairs and relates needed major repairs to supervisor. Operates and drives boom digger bucket trucks and other equipment. Cuts trims and removes tree branches interfering with power lines. Performs maintenance on City-owned outdoor lighting equipment (streets parking lots and parks). Performs work in man holes to install high voltage power cables and make terminations. Responds to: fire call outs pole damage traffic accidents rain snow and wind storm power system outage situations and residential trouble calls.Additional InformationSTARTING HOURLY PAY: $39.08 p/h MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma/GED equivalent Accredited Journey Electric Line worker Certificate. Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by State of residence with current medical certificate Must meet City's insurability requirements. Other conditions: Must pass the City's required background check.
