Work involves revising and developing training policies, developing schedules and training material. Serves as a mentor offering technical guidance and performance feedback. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.\r\nMust be able to obtain a forensic analyst license from the Texas Forensic Science Commission in accordance with the Code of Criminal Procedure Title 1 Chapter 38.01. This applies to the following discipline: Trace Evidence (Option A) within one hundred eighty (180) days of starting employment.\r\nApplicants must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met.\r\nEssential duties/responsibilities:\r\nPlans and manages training activities and training schedules of employees in the discipline.\r\nDevelops, delivers, and/or coordinates technical training for new and existing staff and includes the evaluation of the trainee's progress and comprehension and provides remediation training as needed.\r\nProvides direct feedback to supervisors on training progress and evaluation of employees training. Provides data and productivity reports to management as needed.\r\nLeads technical Advisory Board and oversee and/or completes yearly objectives and program initiatives.\r\nOversees the development, revision and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures, Training Manuals and educational/training materials in conjunction with feedback from the relevant technical advisory board and program coordinator and ensure consistent application across teams.\r\nPrepares training materials such as presentations, lectures, samples, exercises, and exams.\r\nOversees and/or participates in the development, implementation, and monitoring of specialized research projects, including instrument and method validations. Coordinates validation team to perform experiments during validation.\r\nResearches the forensic science field and studies current material in scientific journals regarding new advances and techniques in order to improve, adapt, and implement new procedures and techniques.\r\nMay conduct lectures and teaching assignments to law enforcement groups, schools, etc. and represents the Department at conferences and professional meetings.\r\nProvides input on quality assurance, safety, and the discipline program.\r\nParticipates in proficiency activities, and casework activities as required to maintain work authorization and licensing.\r\nCoordinates the collection, organization, data analysis, and preparation of materials in response to requests for program information and/or to develop, implement and oversee system-wide discipline projects and initiatives.\r\nMay serve as the Technical Point of Contact for discipline.\r\nMay serve as a subject matter expert for major crimes and/or cold case review.\r\nMay testify in court.\r\nAnalyzes and provides data on workflow efficiency and management.\r\nParticipates in internal and external auditing.\r\nAttends work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.\r\nPerforms other duties as assigned.\r\nQualificationsGeneral qualifications and requirements:\r\nEducation Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in a chemical, physical, biological science, chemical engineering or forensic science* including the successful completion of sixteen (16) semester hours of chemistry.\r\nExperience Minimum of five (5) years work experience as Trace Evidence (Materials) Forensic Scientist in an accredited crime laboratory is required. Experience as a qualified Forensic Scientist in hair, fiber, paint, and impression evidence analysis, is preferred.\r\nLicensure and/or Certification If driving is required, must possess a valid driver license from state of residence. Must have a forensic analyst license from the Texas Forensic Science Commission if required by the Code of Criminal Procedure.\r\nRegulatory knowledge Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures.\r\nSupervisory/Managerial/Leadership skills Knowledge of management/supervisory methods and principles, performance/productivity standards, and fiscal/budget management. Ability to develop plans, policies, and procedures for efficient workflow and overall effectiveness. Ability to provide clear direction to others, promote teamwork and motivate others to accomplish goals.\r\nTechnology Proficiency with Microsoft Office and appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems (e.g. CAPPS, SharePoint) and be able to learn new software/systems. Considerable knowledge of instrumentation, methods techniques, and controls used in the specific discipline.\r\nInterpersonal Skills Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.
