The Laboratory Analyst prepares and analyzes samples with accuracy and precision in accordance to SGS' analytical SOPs. The Laboratory Analyst works independently and as part of a team to meet daily production targets and ensure hold times and turnaround times are met. The Laboratory Analyst understands and applies basic analytical science principles. The Laboratory Analyst always follows safe laboratory practices and maintains a safe working environment.\n\nJob functions:\n\nAfter appropriate training independently prepares and analyzes samples according to SGS’ analytical SOPs using instrumentation specific to the department and analytical methodologies\nPerforms routine operation, maintenance, calibration of laboratory instruments/equipment\nAssists with investigation, and preparation of responses to client inquiries and CARs.\nInputs and maintains technical information as needed to support the laboratory functions/operations.\nMaintains Laboratory Notebook where applicable.\nAdheres to internal standards, policies and procedures.\nPerforms other duties as assigned.\nPerform asbestos analyses according to established laboratory procedures and regulatory methods.\nConduct Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) analysis of bulk building materials.\nPerform Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) analysis of air samples.\nPrepare samples using approved preparation techniques including gravimetric reductions and other applicable procedures.\nReview sample information for completeness and document observations accurately.\n\nQualifications\n\nAssociate Degree in a Geology or similar scientific discipline and 0-2 years of experience in Analytical Laboratories OR 3 years of relevant experience (i.e. Sample Prep) (Required)\nBachelor’s Degree in a Geology or similar scientific discipline and 1-2 years of years’ relevant experience in Geology Laboratories (Preferred)\nBasic mathematical and reasoning skills (Required)\nExperience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) (Required)\nExperience with GCMS and Organics methods (Preferred)\nExperience with LIMS (Preferred)\nAbility to lift/carry/push and/or pull upwards of 25 lbs on a frequent basis (Required)","company":"SGS","rawCompany":"sgs","city":"Carson","state":"CA","isRemote":false,"isActive":true,"createdAt":"2026-08-14T14:52:27.431Z","occupations":[{"code":"19-4099.01","title":"Quality Control Analysts","slug":"quality-control-analysts"},{"code":"19-4031.00","title":"Chemical Technicians","slug":"chemical-technicians"},{"code":"19-4099.00","title":"Life, Physical, and Social Science Technicians, All Other","slug":"life-physical-and-social-science-technicians-all-other"}],"industries":[{"code":"541380","title":"Testing Laboratories and Services","slug":"testing-laboratories-and-services"},{"code":"541690","title":"Other Scientific and Technical Consulting Services","slug":"other-scientific-and-technical-consulting-services"},{"code":"621511","title":"Medical Laboratories","slug":"medical-laboratories"}],"jobPosting":{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"JobPosting","title":"Lab Analyst I","description":"Company Description\n\nSGS is the world's leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company.
