This is a hands-on architecture and engineering leadership role focused on solving complex data challenges, including telemetry ingestion, data accuracy, system reconciliation, and large-scale platform reliability.\n\nThe ideal candidate is a data-first architect with deep expertise in relational database design, SQL performance optimization, and data correctness who has expanded into cloud-native application architecture and engineering leadership.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nOwn the architecture, quality, and integrity of the organization's data platform.\nDesign and optimize relational and time-series data models supporting high-volume telemetry data.\nLead a distributed engineering team while driving best practices in code quality, testing, observability, and operational excellence.\nEstablish technical architecture direction across backend services, data products, and customer-facing applications.\nDevelop and maintain production-grade backend services using modern cloud technologies.\nEvaluate technology, storage, and build-versus-buy decisions based on scalability, reliability, maintainability, and cost.\nLead technical design efforts for new platform capabilities, integrations, and data-driven products.\nPartner closely with business and technology stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.\nMentor engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence.\nRequired Qualifications\nData & Database Expertise\n\nStrong experience designing and optimizing relational database solutions in environments such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or MySQL.\nExpertise with:\no Data modeling\no Query tuning and execution plans\no Indexing strategies\no Partitioning techniques\no Performance optimization\n\nExperience validating and reconciling data against external source systems to ensure accuracy and consistency.\nKnowledge of high-volume operational or time-series data environments.\nStrong understanding of data pipeline reliability, including idempotency, retry handling, monitoring, and incident response.\nArchitecture & Engineering Leadership\n\n3+ years of experience in a senior technical leadership role such as Architect, Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Engineering Lead.\nProven experience mentoring engineers and leading distributed teams.\nStrong track record of making architecture decisions and guiding technical direction.\nExperience driving engineering quality standards and operational maturity.\nCloud & Application Development\n\n5+ years of experience building production backend, platform, cloud, or data systems.\nStrong experience with AWS, including:\no Lambda\no S3\no SNS/SQS\no DynamoDB\no IAM\no VPC\no Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation/CDK)\n\nHands-on experience developing backend services in TypeScript/Node.js or similar technologies.\nAbility to review and evaluate modern frontend architectures built with React or Next.js.\nPreferred Qualifications\n\nPostgreSQL and TimescaleDB experience.\nExperience with time-series databases such as InfluxDB or ClickHouse.\nIoT, telemetry, utility, water, energy, or sensor-driven platforms.\nExperience with data lakes and analytics tools such as Athena, Glue, and Parquet.\nKnowledge of Docker, ECS/Fargate, ECR, and CI/CD pipelines.\nBackground in anomaly detection, signal processing, or advanced analytics.\nTechnology Doesn't Change the World, People Do. ®\n\nRobert Half is the world’s first and largest specialized talent solutions firm that connects highly qualified job seekers to opportunities at great companies.
