We are a Christ-centered community that enhances the lives of those we serve and their families by providing loving homes and professional support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.Position Summary:The controller is responsible for providing accurate accounting, reporting, and record retention of all financial aspects of the organization. This is a hands-on, data-intensive position. With the Chief Operating Officer and the accounting specialist, this professional will interact with and provide information as necessary to support the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Directors, Finance and Investment Committees, and other departments, individuals and groups within the organization. The controller is highly collaborative with others on the organization’s leadership and home management team.Essential Functions: Management of cash flow, investments, and endowment including:Monitoring the checking account balance to ensure fund availability for payroll and other operations.Handling transfers between multiple financial institutions as needed and ensures excess operational funds are properly invested. Management and review of home checking accounts, including expenditures and bank account access.Implement endowment and campaign fund investments as directed by the Angels’ Place Investment CommitteeMaintain restricted gift records and ensure funds are held until restrictions are met. Monthly Financial Statement preparation including:Review of expense coding and credit card reports.Review and reconcile bank statements.Review monthly journal entries,Analyze budget variances by location and expense category, prepare financial summary and forecast for finance committee, Board and other committees as requested. Manage Income from philanthropy sources (donations and special events) including:Post deposits from all sources. Process and track endowment donations.Prepare financial summary and reconcile database after special events.File application for License to Solicit Funds. Manage Community Mental Health billing process in coordination with Accounting Specialist.Lead the preparation of annual budget and 5-year forecast with consultation of Chief Executive Officer, Chief Development Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Program OfficerMonitor collection of all receivables and social security income, prepare quarterly cost settlements, and ensure receipt of any payments owed.Prepare financial audit schedules, provide audit support, review 990, and other documents as necessary in partnership with our auditing firm. Mentorship and supervision of full-time Accounting Specialist Other position-specific duties may be assigned. Position Qualifications:Education:Required: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance Preferred: CPA certification Preferred: Master's degree in business administration, Accounting or Finance Experience:Required: seven to ten years related experience Required: minimum of five years of recent experience working with accounting/billing software. Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook, QuickBooks and other common processing software. Preferred: Knowledge of community mental health/Medicaid financial practices Preferred: Knowledge of accounting for philanthropic gifts. Other Requirements:Must pass physical, drug screen, TB test (paid by Angels' Place) Must pass Michigan State Police and FBI fingerprint criminal history background check. Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license and maintain a responsible driving record Work Environment:Work will be performed in-person at the Angels’ Place office; typical hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with evening hours required occasionally for board and committee meetings or special events. Local travel is occasionally required.
