As a process engineer, the successful candidate must be competent in performing, leading, and directing all conventional aspects of Process Engineering and application of judgment for the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard design criteria, methods, and procedures. Supervisory responsibility may include providing technical guidance and coordination for staff assigned to one or more projects, mentoring and developing staff, interviewing and recruiting potential new hires.\n\nPrimary Responsibilities\n\nPlan, organize, and oversee the process engineering activities with responsibility for quality and accuracy as well as performance budget and schedule\n\nUnderstand the project scope and deliverables\n\nInitiate timely project change notices when deviations are made from project scope that affect the cost of the work, deliverable and/or schedule\n\nEstablish the process design criteria for the project\n\nOversee PFD and P&ID development, heat and material balances, hydraulic calculations, and other process engineering tasks\n\nReview and approve all process engineering deliverables\n\nPrepare equipment specifications and assist in the development of bid packages for procurement of equipment\n\nReview and check vendor information and reconcile verses the process design documents\n\nCoordinate with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure inter-disciplinary alignment of the design effort\n\nReview discipline design information and design drawings for process engineering input and participate in inter-discipline design reviews\n\nDevelop preliminary designs suitable for the level of estimate being prepared as part of a capital project development study\n\nMaintain familiarity with and utilize industry standards, procedures, and guidelines\n\nCheck calculations, reports, and studies made by other engineers to ensure accuracy, as well as conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and good engineering practices\n\nMust possess exceptional organizational skills with emphasis on meeting customer deadlines\n\nMust work well with group, possess good communication and be comfortable working in a fast-paced diverse environment\n\nQualifications / Qualities\n\nBachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Paper Engineering\n\n10+ years of experience in the pulp and paper industry\n\nExtensive knowledge of paper machine equipment, processes, and operations\n\nExperience in PFD and P&ID development, heat and material balances, and equipment specifications\n\nProficient with MS office\n\nGood communication skills, both verbal and written\n\nAble to travel as required, typically up to 25%\n\nMust pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy\n\nUS Citizenship and Valid US Driver’s License\n\nTypical duties will be performed in an office environment with occasional field trips to operating facilities or construction sites. This requires ability to sit for extended periods of time, computer data entry, normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.
