Travel RN - ICU
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a 13-week ICU travel assignment in Arizona, requiring a minimum of 2 years of critical care experience, strong EKG interpretation skills, and the ability to manage complex cardiac and critical care patient populations across multiple ICU settings.Job Details• Acute care hospital setting within a Critical Care service line encompassing CVICU (12 beds), COVID ICU (8 beds), MS ICU (8 beds), and PCU (16-20 beds),• ICU nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1-2 based on acuity and staffing; PCU ratio is 1:3-4,• Common diagnoses include COVID requiring manual proning, low-level neuro, EVD, DKA, sepsis, ARF, CRRT, rhabdomyolysis, post-MI, detox, STEMI, TAVR, cardiac surgical cases, VAD devices, Impella, IABP, CEA, and post-open heart surgery,• Nurses are required to titrate critical care drips including pressors (levophed), paralytics, sedation (propofol), anti-arrhythmics, dopamine, heparin, and argatroban,• Proficiency with ventilator weaning and troubleshooting required; respiratory equipment includes vents, BiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, and Vapotherm; Glidescopes used during intubation,• Tele monitoring is RN-read (no monitor techs); Nihon Kohden telemetry system used with monitors in rooms and at the nurses' station,• Charting system: Cerner,• 12-hour night shifts, 7p-7a,• Two weekend shifts per pay period are required; weekend nights include Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday variations,• No scheduled on-call requirement; low-census call possible approximately once every 6 weeks,• Travelers are first to float; may float to PCU, MST, and EC ICU/PCU per staff rotation schedules,Job Requirements• Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) license required; must be active at time of consideration - pending licenses not accepted,• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted,• Minimum 2 years of ICU/critical care RN experience required,• Strong EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia recognition skills required,• Experience with ventilator weaning and troubleshooting required,• Experience across complex critical care diagnoses including cardiac surgery, CRRT, EVD, chest tubes, art lines, and Swan-Ganz catheters strongly preferred; IABP and Prismaflex CRRT experience preferred,• ABG interpretation skills required,• Candidate must reside more than 50 miles from the facility (permanent address as listed on driver's license),• Candidates may not have been directly employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility within the past year (candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered),• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years - both must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire,• Copy of driver's license required for consideration,Additional Information• Candidates must take and pass a Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) with a score of at least 80% within two attempts before an offer can be confirmed; failure on the second attempt results in a 6-month DNU status for CommonSpirit Arizona and Sacramento-region facilities,• On the first day of orientation, nurses are given a pass/fail sterile technique test covering Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes; failure on the second attempt also results in a 6-month DNU status,• Orientation consists of 8 hours of general hospital orientation, one 12-hour precepted shift on the unit, and a second 12-hour shift with a buddy available for questions; additional orientation provided for specialized skills such as open heart surgery or CRRT,• Schedules are made 4 weeks in advance with some self-scheduling available, subject to manager review and approval; block scheduling is not typically allowed, but shift trades with other staff are permitted,• Holiday coverage required; travelers are expected to work one winter holiday and the eve of another holiday,• Intensivists are in-house 24/7 on the West campus with NP supplementation; charge nurses do not routinely take assignments but may do so as a last resort and respond to rapid response and code blue calls,• Professional scrubs in any color are acceptable; camouflage scrubs are not permitted (note: the unit is transitioning to navy scrubs),• RTO requests of less than 7 days are acceptable; holiday requests are not permitted
