Metglas, Inc., located in Conway, SC, is a world leading producer of Amorphous Metal Ribbon. Since our company began in the 1970’s, Metglas, Inc. (then Allied Signal located in Morristown, NJ) pioneered the development and production of amorphous metal, a unique alloy that exhibits a structure in which the metal atoms occur in a random pattern. The key to Metglas Inc.’s proprietary manufacturing process is the rapid-solidification of molten alloy at a rate of approximately one million degrees Celsius per second. We are currently hiring for a Quality Assurance Lab Technician to join our team! The Quality Assurance Lab Technician position is responsible for conducting physical and chemical testing of all amorphous metal ribbon and transformer cores, preparing samples, visually inspecting materials, analyzing materials, alloys, and raw materials to ensure they meet company, customer, and ISO quality standards. Job Duties: Work safely while testing materials, chemicals, acids, gases, solvents and other test solutions Visually and mechanically inspect samples of amorphous metal alloy products for conformity to specifications Prepare samples for elemental analysis by sectioning or crushing using ring pulverizer mill. Conduct analysis using wide array of testing equipment, including carbon/sulfur and oxygen/nitrogen analyzers, calorimetric test equipment, spectrometers (XRF, OE, AA, and ICP), auto-cutter, Niton and/or LIBS alloy analyzer, mass balance, microwave, grinders, jaw crusher, drill press, and various hand tools Average/review test results and record data in computer/QA system Transport spent samples to production area for disposal or re-melt Other duties as assigned Job Requirements: Ability to conduct analysis, and accurately interpret and record test results and data Demonstrated mechanical aptitude Basic computer skills: ability to enter, retrieve, and evaluate data High school graduate or equivalent (required) Chemical background, training, and/or relevant industrial/mechanical experience preferred Above-average math skills preferred Must be able to work a 12-hour rotating schedule, to include nights and weekends Full Time Benefits Start on Day 1 and include: Medical Dental Vision 401k - you can contribute right away, w/match after 12 months of employment Life Insurance AD&D Voluntary & Supplemental Benefits Paid Time Off & Paid Holidays Advancement/Career Path Opportunities Visit metglas.com to learn more about what we do.
