Develop, when needed, update and instruct curriculum in both formal classroom setting and on deckplate practical knowledge. High voltage experience in the 4160 volt range is a plus.\n\nOperating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Electrical Instructor ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while coordinating with other key stakeholders to meet overall milestones.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nSafety Leadership:\n\nConduct safe classroom and shipboard instruction.\n\nProject Execution:\n\nInstruct BOTH junior and senior USN personnel.\n\nObserve, assess, and train ships personnel in the conduct of practical hands-on application of standard Navy documentation, programs and doctrine: i.e. EOP, EOSS, EOCC, SDOSS, PMS, MSFD, Electrical Safety, etc.\n\nTraining and Development:\n\nBe able to enhance a learning environment at all times.\n\nDevelop, update, and teach curriculum in a formal classroom setting, to include PowerPoint material.\n\nAssist in training the ships DCTT and ETT.\n\nTeam Collaboration and Communication:\n\nWork effectively with other instructors individually or as a group and in shipyard production areas.\n\nSupport Manufacturing personnel in the execution of shipboard hands‑on indoctrination.\n\nServe as a counterpart to PRE‑COM crew Engineering Department personnel, providing guidance and assistance as required to influence the successful transition of ship and crew into the operational fleet.\n\nContinuous Improvement:\n\nAlways be willing to take both simple and complicated questions for resolution.\n\nRequired/Preferred Education/Training\n\nMinimum High School Diploma or GED required.\n\nUSN Engineering schools and/or experience is a plus\n\nAssociates or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.\n\nRequired/Preferred Experience\n\nMinimum 10+ years of experience in active duty surface Navy or equivalent in ship operational testing, operation, and maintenance.\n\nThree (3) years prior Navy instructor experience or an equivalent level of experience teaching both in the formal classroom and hands‑on environment (designated Navy Master Training Specialist a plus).\n\nThree (3) years DDG 51 class experience; DDG 1000 Class experience a plus.\n\nComputer skills: MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) at a minimum.\n\nUSN Engineering LDO/CWO or EMC/GSE/GSCS experience or relative experience in maintaining shipboard electrical systems\n\nBe familiar as to the utilization and purpose of EOSS, EOP, EOCC, SDOSS, PMS and ALL Electrical Safety protocols.\n\nThe best candidate will have at least 1-2 ship tours aboard a DDG 51 class vessel in a senior electrical billet capacity, prefer E7 or higher.\n\nMay be called upon to assist in training the ships DCTT and ETT.\n\nFiberoptic cable experience preferred.\n\nThe candidate will be required to travel on reasonable notice to support BIW ships at PRE‑COM crew detachment sites (Norfolk, San Diego). Travel away from home would be typically limited to three (3) week duration, four (4) to six (6) weeks per year.\n\nThis position requires you to have, or be able to obtain, a government security clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.
