Program Director
Prince Dance Company is a contemporary dance company based on the rural island of Hawaii. It’s mission is to enrich the lives of the people of Hawaii and the world by creating thought-provoking theatrical dance works which challenge and inspire its audiences and by ensuring all youth who want to learn and perform in the arts are afforded the opportunity.
For over 15 years the company has been creating new works of arts, bringing dance and dance education into schools, producing performances and providing scholarships in arts education for youth, and building a strong and thriving arts community in Hawaii.
Overview:
Prince Dance Company is seeking an experienced Program Director (PD) to lead its Engage Program Director, which takes dance education into Hawaii Schools. The Program Director is responsible for the implementation of its two school programs: Artists in the Schools and Interactive Dance Performances. This role handles the scheduling, contracts and fulfillment and works closely with the Executive Director to fundraise and write grants for the programs. The PD will collaborate with the Artistic Director to develop learning outcomes, curriculum development and teacher oversite. This position requires knowledge about and experience in schools, curriculum, learning outcomes, and a passion for arts education. Experience with Hawaii schools is a plus.
This role will also involve some administrative tasks for the company which support the work of the Executive Director.
Specific responsibilities include:
Communication and Collaboration:
Communicate with schools to coordinate the scheduling and logistics of performances statewide. Establish and maintain positive relationships with school administrators, educators, and community partners. Communicate regularly with grantors, schools, and teachers to ensure successful program implementation. Form a relationship with the Department of Education (DOE) to ensure deeper reach of PDC programming.
Curriculum Development:
Design and develop curriculum materials for the Educational Dance Performances program, ensuring alignment with educational standards. Create engaging and age-appropriate educational content to enhance the impact of performances.
Grant Writing and Fundraising:
Research and identify grant opportunities to support the Engage Program. Work with the Executive Director to write compelling grant proposals, securing funding for performances and educational initiatives. Actively participate in company’s various fundraising activities and cultivate relationships with donors to support program sustainability. Write grants for the AITS program.
Collaboration with Artistic Director:
Work collaboratively with the Artistic Director to conceptualize and create educational dance performances and accompanying curriculum. Contribute to the development of performance concepts, themes, and artistic elements.
Staff Management
Alongside the Artistic Director provide ongoing support, supervision, and professional development opportunities for artists and teaching artists. Facilitate communication between teachers, schools, and the organization. Handle negotiations with artists, contractors, and vendors. Create contracts and ensure compliance with contracts and agreements.
Financial Management:
Create and manage budgets for these programs in collaboration with the Executive Director.
Program Oversight:
Ensure the successful execution of both the educational performances and the Artists in the School program. Monitor program effectiveness, collect feedback, and make recommendations for improvement.
Community Engagement:
Act as a representative of Prince Dance Company in educational and community forums.
Collaborate with community partners to enhance the program's reach and impact.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree or higher and four (4) years of related work experience.
Track record of developing, implementing and evaluating a broad spectrum of engaging cultural and educational programming and curriculum.
Demonstrated skills in producing and/or managing arts, cultural and/or educational events and projects.
A collaborative and energetic approach and Independently motivated
Entrepreneurial and creative mindset required – must be able to think strategically on how to expand the Engage Program.
Demonstrated skill in developing and managing program budgets.
Management experience
Have or know how to build strong relationships with a local network of cultural, arts, humanities organizations and educational institutions.
Strong written and verbal communication skills including public speaking.
Proficiency in MS office required.
Must be able to work part time remotely, including flexible days and times that may involve evening and/or weekend work.
COMPENSATION & START DATE
This position pays between $30-$35 an hour commensurate with experience, for a half time work week, 15-20 hours per week. This position will begin as soon as the candidate is found.
