This individual will be responsible for the administration, performance, availability, security, and continuous improvement of mission-critical SQL Server environments that support enterprise business applications. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with a hybrid work schedule. Candidates must be local to the Cleveland, Ohio market.\n\nThe ideal candidate combines deep SQL Server administration expertise with strong experience supporting highly available production environments. In addition to traditional DBA responsibilities, the client is looking for someone who has experience working with databases in cloud environments. While the client's primary cloud platform is AWS, candidates with Azure or other public cloud database administration experience are highly encouraged to apply.\n\nThis role partners closely with application development, infrastructure, security, and business teams to ensure the organization's database platforms remain secure, highly available, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.\n\nDatabase Administration & Production Support\n\nAdminister, maintain, and support enterprise SQL Server database environments.\nEnsure the availability, reliability, and performance of production databases supporting critical business applications.\nMonitor database health, capacity, performance, and utilization.\nTroubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents and performance issues.\nParticipate in a rotating on-call schedule supporting production systems.\n\nPerformance Tuning & Optimization\n\nAnalyze and optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, execution plan analysis, and configuration improvements.\nMonitor database workloads and implement proactive performance enhancements.\nOptimize storage allocation, resource utilization, and database growth strategies.\nIdentify root causes of recurring performance issues and implement long-term solutions.\n\nHigh Availability, Backup & Disaster Recovery\n\nDesign, implement, and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.\nSupport and enhance high-availability environments to minimize downtime and business disruption.\nRegularly test recovery procedures and validate business continuity plans.\nDevelop and maintain database archiving and retention strategies.\n\nCloud Database Administration\n\nSupport database platforms hosted in cloud environments, including AWS, Azure, and other public cloud providers.\nAssist with cloud database deployments, upgrades, migrations, and optimization initiatives.\nImplement cloud-based backup, recovery, monitoring, and security best practices.\nCollaborate with infrastructure teams on cloud modernization efforts and future database platform strategies.\nEvaluate opportunities to improve scalability, resiliency, and operational efficiency through cloud services and automation.\n\nSecurity, Governance & Compliance\n\nManage database access controls, permissions, and security configurations.\nEnsure compliance with organizational standards, security policies, and regulatory requirements.\nSupport audit requests and provide evidence for internal and external compliance reviews.\nPerform database security assessments and recommend improvements.\nPromote best practices for data protection, privacy, and database governance.\n\nArchitecture & Platform Strategy\n\nPartner with development teams to establish database architecture, design, coding, and performance standards.\nEvaluate database technologies, tools, and platforms and make recommendations for future investment.\nParticipate in long-term database strategy, capacity planning, and infrastructure modernization initiatives.\nContribute to quarterly planning and technology roadmaps supporting business priorities.\n\nProject Delivery & Technical Leadership\n\nParticipate in database-related projects, upgrades, application implementations, and technology initiatives.\nSupport database migrations across environments, including on-premises and cloud platforms.\nAssist with project planning, resource estimation, and implementation activities.\nProvide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members.\nCollaborate across infrastructure, security, development, and business teams to deliver successful outcomes.\n\nQualifications\n\nRequired Qualifications\n\n5+ years of hands-on SQL Server Database Administration experience.\nStrong experience supporting production SQL Server environments.\nProven expertise in database performance tuning and troubleshooting.\nExperience implementing and supporting backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.\nStrong understanding of database security, auditing, and access management.\nExperience with database migrations, upgrades, and lifecycle management.\nKnowledge of database architecture, relational database concepts, and data modeling principles.\nExperience working in mission-critical, highly available production environments.\nExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.\n\nPreferred Qualifications\n\nExperience supporting databases hosted in AWS, Azure, or other public cloud platforms.\nExperience with cloud database services such as Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, Azure SQL\nDatabase, Azure SQL Managed Instance, or similar technologies.\nExperience participating in cloud
