Erik's Ranch & Retreats, located in the breathtaking Paradise Valley near Livingston, Montana, is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Equine Specialist & Ranch Hand to join our team. At Erik's Ranch & Retreats, our mission is to provide exceptional experiences for our guests while empowering young adults with autism to lead meaningful and independent lives. This role is designed for an expert equestrian who can combine high-level horse management and trail leadership with hospitality and the mentorship of our members - young adults with autism. The ideal candidate will possess extensive equine experience, possess maintenance and construction skills, thrive in a dynamic outdoor environment, and have a passion for inclusive community building. On-site housing is provided as part of the compensation package.Key ResponsibilitiesEquine Management & Trail Leadership:Expert Trail Leadership: Lead and manage technical trail rides for guests of varying skill levels, ensuring the highest standards of safety and horse welfare while showcasing the Montana landscape.Comprehensive Horse Care: Manage the daily health and wellness of the herd, including feeding, grooming, and health monitoring.Herd Maintenance: Perform essential equine tasks such as tack maintenance, assisting with farrier/vet visits, and identifying potential soundness or behavioral issues.Working with Members:Equine Mentorship: Partner with members (young adults with autism) to support their involvement in equine activities, teaching them skills in horse care, grooming, and stable management.Inclusive Environment: Foster a positive and patient atmosphere that encourages skill-building, independence, and personal growth for members through animal interaction.Role Modeling: Serve as a mentor by demonstrating professional equine handling, patience, and enthusiasm for the members' contributions to the ranch.Ranch Operations & Support:General Maintenance: Support the team with repairs, groundskeeping, and equipment upkeep necessary for a functional ranch.Facility Care: Assist with basic housekeeping and laundry duties for guest accommodations and common areas as needed to ensure ranch cleanliness.Guest Services:Professional Engagement: Provide high-level, professional interaction with guests and members to ensure a premium ranch experience.Activity Coordination: Assist in organizing and executing guided equine-focused activities to enhance the guest stay.Skills & QualificationsExtensive Equine Background: Significant, verifiable experience in horse training, riding, and stable management is required.Safety Expertise: Advanced knowledge of trail safety protocols and the ability to handle equine emergencies in a rural setting.Interpersonal Excellence: Strong communication skills to interact effectively with guests, management, and individuals with diverse abilities.Compassionate Mentorship: A patient and understanding demeanor specifically suited for working alongside individuals with autism.Physical Ability: The stamina to perform labor-intensive tasks and remain in the saddle for extended periods in various weather conditions.Compensation & BenefitsSalary: Competitive compensation based on your level of equine expertise.
