Production Supervisor

General Job Description The Production Supervisor leads and coordinates daily operation of the production shift, with responsibility for achieving maximum quality and cost effectiveness in an on-time and efficient manner. He/she actively participates in all areas of employment, performance evaluations, associate relations, and associate development while promoting total employee involvement. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Ensure a safe workplace is provided for all employees; frequently inspect the department for safety compliance. Complete accident reports. Schedule appropriate follow-up reviews; identify accidents related to operator/machine error and initiate necessary training to prevent future accidents. Supervise the activities of production associates to achieve objectives with regard to quality, cost, and time. Evaluate the performance of associates and complete necessary reports. Recommend merit increases and training/development needs. Review daily and weekly shipping schedules and production capabilities to assure all deadlines are met. Check running orders/query dispatch lists to determine schedule priorities. Coordinate and expedite hot parts and assign rework. Inspect and monitor production quality and equipment. Ensure quality procedures/practices are applied to the process, tooling, and equipment to achieve expected quality improvements. Supervise the use of materials to assure an appropriate number of parts are available to maintain smooth production flow; identify wasteful practices and methods; report any problems/concerns with viable solutions to the Manager, Production; and report suggestions recommended by associates for procedure change, etc. Promote and support the company's efforts in associate engagement, and "open door" communications through the development and/or implementation of various programs. Promote commitment to quality through attitude, behavior, communication and implementation of programs and activities. Communicate shift management of daily problems and concerns, identifying areas needing attention to ensure the continuity of the operation. Other Duties and Responsibilities Maintain a safe and productive work environment by assuring the work area is clear of tools, brooms, debris, and other items that may present a hazard. Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned. Education High School Diploma / Equivalent required experience. Advanced degree or other training preferred. Experience 5+ years of production leadership experience preferred. Previous work experience in manufacturing as a supervisor or Group Leader required. Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience a plus. Key Competencies Knowledge of computer programs such as Outlook, Excel, Word, etc., and timekeeping software such as ADP's eTime or Kronos. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to enhance a team environment, including development of team‐oriented leaders and members. Must possess a clear thought process of defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions using Lean/Operational Excellence/continuous improvement methodologies. Able to train and develop talent and build bench strength. Able to make timely decisions in stressful situations. Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of management. Good understanding of consumer products, high‐volume lean manufacturing, and state‐of‐the‐art manufacturing processes. An understanding of General Manufacturing best practices, fabrication operations and equipment required. Exceptional leadership, motivational, and project management skills with the ability to drive issues and goals to closure. Ability to integrate business, manufacturing, and technical elements. Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of internal company and external associates, both written and orally, including the telephone. Physical Requirements Requires occasional lifting of objects 25 to 50 pounds. Work requires periodic stooping/bending and frequent walking/standing. Work involves activities that require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, machines, or vehicles. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. This position may be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel, reach with hand and arms, and stoop, kneel or crouch as needed. Specific vision requirements include the ability to see at close range, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
