Head of Legal / General CounselThe position of Head of Legal / General Counsel at Guild Garage Group is responsible for leading all legal functions across a rapidly growing portfolio of garage door companies throughout the United States. This role serves as a strategic advisor to executive leadership, with a strong focus on corporate governance, risk management, regulatory compliance and due diligence for mergers and acquisitions. The General Counsel will partner closely with executive, finance, HR, and operations teams to support scalable growth and protect the organization’s legal and financial interests.Location: Remote - with occasional travel (25% or less)Pay: $200,000-$220,000 annual base salaryResponsibilitiesLead all legal aspects of corporate governance, risk, compliance, divestitures, integrations, mergers, and acquisitions including due diligence, structuring, negotiation, and closingProvide legal guidance to executive leadership on corporate strategy, risk, insurance and compliance mattersDraft, review, and negotiate contracts including purchase agreements, vendor contracts, employment agreements, and partnership agreementsOversee corporate governance, entity structuring, and compliance across multiple states and operating companiesManage external legal counsel and optimize legal spend and performanceAssist in insurance strategy, claims management, and risk exposure analysisDevelop and implement legal policies, procedures, and risk mitigation strategiesEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including labor laws and industry-specific requirementsSupport HR and leadership on employment-related legal matters, disputes, and investigationsOversee litigation, claims, and dispute resolution processesProvide training to leadership teams on legal and compliance topicsSupport ongoing integration of acquired businesses from a legal and compliance perspectiveQualifications and RequirementsJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law schoolActive bar membership in good standing (multi-state preferred)Minimum 8–12 years of legal experience, with strong M&A and corporate law backgroundExperience in private equity-backed or multi-entity organizations preferredStrong knowledge of corporate governance, contract law, employment law, and regulatory complianceExperience managing outside counsel and legal budgetsAbility to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with evolving prioritiesExcellent negotiation, analytical, and decision-making skillsStrong communication skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into business termsHigh level of integrity and ability to handle confidential informationCompetenciesStrategic Legal Leadership – aligning legal strategy with business growth and M&A activityM&A Expertise – deep experience in acquisitions, due diligence, and deal executionRisk Management – identifying and mitigating legal and operational risksCommunication – clear, business-oriented legal guidance to leadershipNegotiation – strong contract and deal negotiation capabilitiesJudgment & Integrity – sound decision-making in high-stakes situationsLines of CommunicationThe Head of Legal / General Counsel reports to the CFO and works closely with executive leadership, finance, HR, and external legal partners in all functional areasWorking ConditionsThis is a full-time remote position with occasional travel required for acquisitions and leadership meetings.What we have to offer you!Benefits – Health, Vision, Dental, PTO, Holidays, Employer paid Life Insurance and LTD, STD, HSA, FSA, 401k and matchingEmployee DiscountEmployee ReferralYou will be part of a world class family of residential services brands, that invests heavily in training and developing our people to position for continued successOur focus on growth will create many opportunities to take on more responsibilities and develop into senior rolesGuild Garage Group is an Equal Opportunity Employer AA/EOE/M/F/V/D.
