Position Summary
The Mobile Advocate provides advocacy and service coordination for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking. As an integral member of the direct services team at LAWS, duties include being part of our on-call rotation, answering the hotline, and providing hospital accompaniment services. This position works across our survivor-supporting spaces, serving survivors who are in our shelter program, receiving services at our Community Services Center (CSC), or receiving services in the community such as the hospital or courthouse. Although the Mobile Advocate’s primary work location will be at our CSC, the position also mobilizes to other locations e.g., to provide extra support for spikes in service need. This position must work collaboratively with the internal team and allied professionals to coordinate high quality survivor services.
Key Responsibilities
Advocacy and Service Coordination (95%)
Provide crisis intervention and safety planning to survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
Provide case management (education, information, and supportive services) as requested by survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and stalking.
Respond to hotline calls and Lethality Assessment Protocol (LAP) calls, and provide crisis intervention, support, information, and referrals to callers. Complete LAP call follow-up services for high danger victims when needed.
Provide information/referrals to other local agencies.
Meet with survivors according to survivors’ availability (nights, weekends as needed).
Coordinate client care with the other LAWS programs, as needed.
Provide/coordinate transportation to appointments for shelter clients, as needed.
Provide/coordinate transportation for clients to legal and other assistance-based appointments, as needed.
Accompany survivors to Court Services Unit and/or the Magistrates office to file for protective orders.
Accompany survivors to court for protective order hearings, family law hearings and/or criminal court hearings when appropriate. This may also include assisting with witness preparation for criminal trials and hearings.
Provide hospital and forensic nurse exam accompaniment.
Provide advocacy and support to victims of sexual assault detained at the Adult and Juvenile Detention Center, when needed.
Maintain appropriate client files; timely process and enter VAdata information (at least daily).
Maintain accurate records to document client care and as required for grant reporting.
Provide educational presentations periodically to staff, volunteers, and allied professionals.
Participate in agency on-call rotation.
Other (5%)
Participate in weekly staff meeting, case review and service coordination meetings.
Obtain 20 hours of job-related training annually.
Assist with answering the phones and door.
Other duties as assigned.

occasionally move about (bending, kneeling) inside the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, etc.

operate a computer and other office productivity equipment, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

Minimum Qualifications
Education Level: Associate’s degree or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred
Disciplines: Any. Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or similar preferred

Additional Notes and Requirements
Experience working with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking preferred. Demonstrated capacity to work independently with survivors of trauma, to positively contribute to a trauma-informed environment; and to engage in self-care. Must demonstrate adaptability and service-orientation to work successfully across different environments and with a diverse range of individuals. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule – some evening and weekend hours are required to meet client and agency needs . Must have good public relations skills and maintain positive relationships with clients, court clerks, police personnel, other attorneys, etc.
