Teamwork.\n\nJob Description Summary\nBasic Purpose\nElevator Inspectors perform complex inspections of new and existing conveyance equipment, including elevators, escalators, vertical platform lifts and dumb waiters to ensure compliance with standard building and safety codes. Elevator Inspectors are responsible for enforcing compliance with codes to ensure public safety. Elevator Inspectors investigate complaints concerning conveyance equipment, recommend repairs and follow up to ensure compliance. Elevator Inspectors maintain accurate records and reports of each inspection. In addition, Elevator Inspectors interpret and explain building and safety codes to contractors, maintenance workers, property owners, and to the general public.\nScope\nElevator inspectors ensure that elevators and escalators are safe for use. Inspectors verify that lift equipment meets standard building and safety codes, issuing certificates of compliance or noncompliance based on their findings.\nReporting and Working Relationships\nThis position will report to the Regional Inspection Supervisor.\nPrimary Responsibilities (100%)\n\nInspects elevators, escalators, lifts, and other conveyance systems to ensure components are compliant with all adopted codes as they pertain to the state/local requirements.\nCompletes required reports and paperwork noting all findings including Violations, Recommendations, and passing comments.\nSubmits reports to the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ), provides copy to owner, and copy to appropriate ATIS office.\nProvides interpretation and recommendation to ensure compliance with the intent of each code.\nEffectively communicates findings to building owners and contractors.\nPicks up extra inspections as needed.\nGenerates new customers for services.\nExplains and clarifies code-related problems with contractor field personnel.\nCommunicates and upholds standards consistently.\nKeeps abreast of code developments and changes pertaining to elevators and inspections.\nCompletes annual Continuing Education Classes, to keep abreast of all code developments, code changes, and regulation requirements as it pertains to elevators, escalators, lifts, and all other conveyance systems.\nWork Environment/Physical Demands\n\nThis position operates in varied environments.\nRoutinely deals with loud noises, working near moving and/or mechanical parts, and in high, precarious places.\nExtremely demanding attention required.\nRegularly required to talk and listen.\nRequired to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.\nThe employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.\nSpecific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.\nConsiderable time is spent in the field inspecting elevators, escalators, and various other lift equipment.\nInspection sites can be dirty, cluttered with materials or debris. Inspectors may have to climb ladders or many flights of stairs, or crawl around in tight spaces.\nInspectors must adhere to safety requirements, including PPE at constructions sites such as wearing hard hats, safety shoes, high visibility vest, and eye protection.\nThere can be a risk of electric shock due to working near working mechanical parts and wires.\nEnvironments can be dusty and include various odors.\nThere is often vibration while riding the elevators.\nPosition deals with various non-weather conditions including heat and cold and periodically must deal with outdoor weather conditions.\nTravel\nTravel to and from jobs is required to service our clients and customers. Travel may be required but will be determined on as needed basis.\nQualifications\n\nMust have a Certified Elevator Inspection License through NEASA International or the QEI Training Fund (QEITF).\nMust have additional AHJ Licenses/Certifications for the AHJs in which you will be working as well as maintaining those licenses annually as required.
