Our work directly impacts service members and their families during critical events, and we take that responsibility seriously.\nDescription:\nWe are seeking a full-time Technical Documentation Engineer with a proven track record in writing and maintaining technical documentation for DoD/DoW long-life enterprise software systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of software engineering, a passion for maintaining proper documentation for complex systems, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. The selected candidate will be responsible for developing, editing, and maintaining user guides and system documentation for the PAAS family of systems:\nDuties:\nDevelop and maintain technical documentation in compliance with Department of Defense Information Processing Standards for Computers (DoD IPSC).\nDevelop and maintain software user guides, manuals, instructions, how-to’s, and trainings in print and on-line formats.\nUpdate documents to reflect Agile sprint deliverables and software release changes.\nEnsure documentation supports sustainment activities, including system architecture, interfaces, and test procedures.\nCollaborate with engineering teams to document system interfaces, data models, workflows, and test procedures, and with the customer support team to document end-user guides.\nApply security and privacy controls to technical documentation, including handling of CUI and Privacy Act data.\nPrepare materials for audits, inspections, and formal deliverables to DoD sponsors.\nMaintain consistent terminology, glossaries, and references across the documentation.\nSkills & Experience:\n5+ years of experience as software or systems engineer and 5+ years of experience as a technical writer supporting DoD/DoW Federal Government, or defense contractors (mandatory)\nBachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field\nStrong background with enterprise software systems and long-lifecycle sustainment projects\nStrong experience with technical writing tools: Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Articulate, Affinity, Adobe Creative Cloud, Visio, and Snaggit\nExperience using model-based documentation (UML diagrams, software and data flowcharts, etc.)\nExperience writing and maintaining DoD/DoW Data Item Description-based documentation\nPrior work with Navy or DoD enterprise applications\nExperience with PAAS or similar human resources systems\nKnowledge of DFARS, NIST SP 800-171, DoDD-5200 and CUI requirements\nFamiliarity with Agile development processes\nExcellent written communication, editing, and organizational skills\nOther Requirements:\nU.S. Citizenship (mandatory)\nSecret Security Clearance (mandatory)\nCompTIA Security+ and Windows Server 2012+ certification (mandatory)\nPrior work with Navy or DoD/DoW enterprise applications (desired)\nWork Environment:\nFully remote within the U.S. (with potential occasional travel to San Diego, CA)\nPart of a small, collaborative team where everyone contributes across roles.\nTools: JIRA, Confluence, Office, Articulate, Affinity, Adobe Creative Cloud, Visio, and Snaggit.\nCompensation:\n$40-50 per hour (W2)\nCompetitive compensation and benefits package\nConsistent history of merit-based annual bonuses\nHow to Apply:\nSend your resume and a writing sample (excerpts from unclassified, non-CUI, DID-based documentation or technical manuals) to: [email protected]\n\nBeware of scammers pretending to represent Cognetic Technologies!\nWe will only contact you through official job boards, LinkedIn, or email with a cognetictech.com domain.
