This full‑time permanent position is located in Plymouth, North Carolina, and seeks a Mechanical Engineer to serve as a Maintenance Engineer at our Pulp Mill.\nOverview The Maintenance Engineer will report to the Fiberline Maintenance Superintendent and will be responsible for upkeeping and continuously improving all mechanical equipment and systems related to the fluff pulp machine. The role also involves responding to equipment breakdowns and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to enhance operational efficiency.\nKey Responsibilities Maintain and continuously improve all mechanical equipment and systems related to the fluff pulp machine.\nRespond to equipment breakdowns promptly.\nCollaborate with cross‑functional teams to enhance operational efficiency.\nEssential Functions Preventive and predictive maintenance: develop, implement, and track preventive maintenance schedules to maximize equipment uptime and minimize breakdowns; use predictive maintenance techniques and data from monitoring systems to anticipate failures.\nTroubleshooting and repair: diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues in a timely manner.\nInstallation and upgrades: recommend and implement upgrades or modifications to improve equipment performance and reliability.\nSafety and compliance: ensure all maintenance activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including OSHA and EPA standards; follow company safety procedures such as Lockout/Tagout.\nRecord‑keeping: maintain detailed and accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment history, often using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).\nCollaboration: work with production, operations, and management teams to coordinate maintenance schedules and support projects; communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to find and implement solutions.\nLeadership: lead the mechanical maintenance crew of nine mechanics in the absence of the supervisor and oversee contractors.\nPlanning: develop job planning and project planning skills to assist with outage planning.\nSkills / Competencies Proven analytical and problem‑solving skills.\nDeep understanding of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.\nAbility to work in challenging environments.\nExcellent interpersonal and communication skills.\nAbility to work independently and/or as part of a team.\nStrong attention to detail and organizational skills.\nExcellent computer skills with computer‑based maintenance software such as SAP, MS Office and scheduling software.\nKnowledge of AutoCAD is an asset.\nRequired Qualifications / Professional Experience Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.\nPreferred: 1–4 years of experience working in an industrial mill as a Mechanical/Maintenance Engineer.\nExperience on projects with an operating company or engineering firm as part of a team is considered an asset.\nExperience in construction management and/or maintenance experience in an industrial/process plant environment.\nAbility to work with all levels of the organization, including the management committee and senior leaders.\nDomtar is an equal‑opportunity employer.
