The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for a Fish and Wildlife Technician 4 located in Ketchikan, Alaska! What you will be doing: This Fish and Wildlife Technician 4 is needed for a variety of management and research projects throughout Southeast Alaska. This position will be providing data collection, data entry, field preparation, equipment management and address office needs such as issuing permits, sealing animals and answer questions from the public. This position will have extended field travel and time conducting low-level aerial surveys. This is an advanced-level position that requires independent judgment and creativity operating under the general direction of a supervisor. The working environment you can expect: This Fish and Wildlife Technician 4 will be located in Ketchikan, Alaska. Field work includes spending extended time in a coastal temperate rainforest, flying in small aircraft, boating, handling large mammals, collecting biological samples, and other data. The majority of time in town is spent interacting with the public, responding to wildlife calls, analyzing data, and writing reports. The Ketchikan office is shared with other divisions and organized in an open layout to promote collaboration and communication. Requires travel within Alaska (up to 10 weeks each year). Who we are looking for: We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies: The ideal candidate will possess some or all of the following desired strengths (All of these traits must be documented in your cover letter and applicant profile. If you do not have experience with one or more of these traits listed below, simply say so:) Considerable knowledge of one or more Alaskan mammals including their behavior and habitats. Shows a commitment to serve the public. Ensures that actions meet public needs; aligns organizational objectives and practices with public interests. Experience using laboratory equipment for the purpose of practicing research. Experience with coordinating field work such as procurement, managing equipment and supplies, and providing logistical support to the field crew. Ability to design, adapt and apply physical and biological data collection techniques and diagnostic testing. Ability to conduct aerial surveys while writing and working radio telemetry and GPS equipment. Ability to design and format logs for data collection and perform initial analysis of data from observations. Also, make recommendations, including writing memorandums and correspondence. Ability to perform physically demanding work in inclement weather conditions.
