Massage Therapist

Position Summary: The Massage Therapist is responsible for the provision of Massage Therapy services according to the current standards of practice, including assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions. The therapist utilizes individual interventions to meet the unique needs and preferences of our patients. Massage Therapist Responsibilities: The massage therapist works under the direction of the Director of Clinical Services in collaboration with the patient’s RN Case Manager, IDG and according to the individualized Plan of Care Consults with interdisciplinary team about patient referrals to assess needs and prioritize intervention. Performs as a member of the interdisciplinary team, provides massage therapy assessments and services to the patient in accordance with the individualized interdisciplinary plan of care. Plans and implements therapeutic interventions to assist with alleviating symptoms such as anxiety, agitation, restlessness, sleeplessness, pain, muscle tension, circulation, stiffness, contractures, and/or limited mobility to promote comfort and relaxation. Utilizes various techniques/interventions to promote comfort such as manipulate soft tissues, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments, Comfort Touch. Performs assessment to evaluate the effectiveness of massage therapy and reports the patient’s response to treatment and any changes in patient’s condition to the IDG. Participates in interdisciplinary group (IDG) meetings. Maintains accurate and timely electronic documentation such as visit notes, progress notes and care plans. Provides education and awareness to the hospice team and community regarding the role of massage therapist, the use of holistic and patient focused therapy interventions and appropriateness or contraindications for therapy treatment as requested/directed. Provides in-service education as requested. Participate in the quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities as needed. Responsible for maintaining compliance with all HIPAA regulations and requirements Maintains patient privacy and dignity. Ensure effective use of resources. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited Massage Therapy program. Licensed Massage Therapist in the State of Michigan. Completion of National Certification Exam (NCTMB) (preferred). Previous experience with terminally ill patients/families is highly desirable. JOB FACTORS: Physical Requirements: Requires considerable physical effort most of the day, for long periods of time, including kneeling, squatting, reaching, twisting, climbing, walking, exposure to temperature and humidity changes. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures. Ability to reach, bend, twist, squat, kneel, push and pull. Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds. Ability to perform repetitive movements including simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation. Occasional sitting, frequent walking and constant standing. Mental Requirements: Must be able to work independently, make judgments based on assessments and data available and act accordingly. Must be flexible, innovative and possess good interpersonal skills. Must be able to cope with mental and emotional stress and demonstrate emotional stability. Working Conditions: Be able to tolerate exposure to elements including, but not limited to, odors, blood, body fluids and excrements, adverse environmental conditions and hazardous materials. Transportation: Must have a current valid driver’s license, auto liability insurance and reliable transportation.
