Our client is a leader and innovator in distributed energy. They have responded to long-term trends in electricity by becoming the first smart-grid supplier to US energy consumers. The Solutions/Applications Engineer serves as the technical lead for customer-facing power generation and microgrid solutions, owning system architecture, technical scope, and solution development from early customer engagement through project handoff. This role combines strong electrical engineering fundamentals with customer consultation, technical leadership, and business strategy. Solutions/Applications Engineers work directly with customers to understand operational challenges, develop practical solutions, and communicate complex power system concepts in a clear and actionable way. This is not a traditional design engineering role focused primarily on calculations, drafting, or detailed design packages. Instead, Solutions/Applications Engineers serve as trusted technical advisors, balancing reliability, performance, constructability, schedule, and commercial objectives to deliver executable solutions. We're looking for engineers who enjoy leading technical discussions, solving complex problems, and serving as the technical leader in the room.Responsibilities:Lead development of microgrid and distributed generation solutions for customer proposals, including system architecture, equipment sizing, and technical scopeDevelop electrical system designs, including single-line diagrams, layouts, and medium/low voltage system configurationsPerform and support power system evaluations (load, capacity, reliability) to inform design decisionsServe as the primary technical interface with customers, leading discussions, whiteboarding sessions, and presentationsCollaborate cross-functionally with engineering, EPC, R&D, and product teams to develop optimized, executable solutionsPrepare and communicate technical content for proposals, including drawings, narratives, and supporting documentationEvaluate design tradeoffs across cost, performance, constructability, and scheduleParticipate in site visits and customer engagements to validate design assumptionsConduct peer reviews to ensure quality and consistency of technical designs and estimatesRequirements:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field4+ years of experience in power systems, distributed generation, microgrids, or related fieldsStrong knowledge of low-voltage and medium-voltage power systems, generation systems, and electrical distributionExperience developing and interpreting electrical system diagrams, including single-line diagrams and power system layoutsAbility to evaluate technical challenges from a systems perspective and translate requirements into practical engineering solutionsStrong analytical and problem-solving capabilitiesExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to effectively engage both technical and non-technical audiencesAbility to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines and functionsPhysical requirements and working conditions: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 20 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone/computerDesired:Experience with power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, or reliability analysisFamiliarity with power system modeling tools (e.g., ETAP, PSCAD, PSS/E, MATLAB/Simulink)Experience with electrical equipment design and layout, including switchgear and interconnection systemsUnderstanding of protection schemes, relaying concepts, and system coordinationProficiency with AutoCAD or similar design toolsExperience supporting technical proposals, bids, or customer-facing engineering effortsFamiliarity with RFP processes and working within defined commercial and technical constraintsExposure to utility interconnection, distributed energy resources (DER), or grid servicesAbout Theoris: Our goal is to Fuel Your Career!
