The Travel RN adapts quickly to new environments, follows facility policies, and delivers safe, high-quality nursing care. Key Responsibilities 1. Patient Care Assess, monitor, and document patient health status. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians. Develop and implement patient care plans. Monitor patient progress and report changes to physicians and care teams. 2. Clinical Procedures Perform clinical tasks such as wound care, IV therapy, catheterization, and medication administration. Operate medical equipment and monitor vital signs. Assist with diagnostic tests and procedures. 3. Documentation Maintain accurate patient records using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems. Document nursing assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes. 4. Collaboration Work with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals. Communicate with patients and families regarding care plans and treatment. 5. Adaptability Quickly learn and follow the policies and procedures of each facility. Adjust to new teams, workflows, and patient populations. 6. Compliance & Safety Follow healthcare regulations, safety standards, and infection control guidelines. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to ethical nursing standards. Education Requirements Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) (preferred) Licensure & Certifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license Ability to obtain state licenses in multiple states (or a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) license where applicable) Required certifications often include: BLS (Basic Life Support) ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – depending on specialty PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – for pediatric units Specialty certifications (ICU, ER, etc.) may be required Experience Requirements Usually 1–2 years of recent clinical experience in a specialty area such as: Medical-Surgical ICU Emergency Room Labor & Delivery Telemetry Pediatric Nursing Travel nurses must be able to work independently with minimal training .
