This disruptive technology will empower individuals, businesses, and nations to comprehend and interact with our planet on an unprecedented scale. We are actively recruiting talented engineers at all levels to spearhead this new capability within a fast-paced, high-impact environment where speed, ownership, and precision are paramount.About the RoleYou will be among the initial team members developing next-generation, AI-powered geospatial software and foundation models. Whether your expertise lies in full-stack geospatial applications, foundation model training, GPU scaling, or multi-modal AI research, you will combine rapid experimentation with rigorous engineering to transform ambitious concepts into production systems that support real-world missions.Key ResponsibilitiesPrototype & Ship – Build and iterate on features for our geospatial web application, flight-related software, and AI-driven decision systems, moving seamlessly between frontend, backend, and large-scale data pipelines.Leverage Generative AI – Use coding assistants, context engineering, ReAct and other agent paradigms to accelerate development and deliver high-quality code.Full-Stack Execution – Write production-ready Python and TypeScript/React (including WebGL/WebGPU) with a focus on readability, testing, and performance.Foundational Model & GPU Scaling – Train and fine-tune multi-modal geospatial foundation models using large GPU clusters (A100/H100), distributed training frameworks (FSDP, ZeRO, DDP), and high-throughput data pipelines.Applied Research – Stay current with LLM, multi-modal, and multi-agent research; run quick POCs and translate findings into practical solutions for planetary-scale reasoning.Earth Observation and Remote Sensing Data Expertise – Work with massive Earth observation datasets (Sentinel, Landsat, Planet), including preprocessing, tiling, and projection handling at petabyte scale.Collaboration & Communication – Work closely with product, design, and domain experts to scope ambiguous problems and communicate technical trade-offs clearly.Quality, Reliability & Scaling – Own code from design through deployment; add observability, guardrails, and documentation so the team can scale with confidence.MLOps & Cost Efficiency – Deploy, monitor, and optimize large models in production; orchestrate training jobs across GPU/TPU clusters; ensure efficiency in compute and cloud spend.QualificationsBachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in CS, EE, Math, Aero/Astro, Physics, or related discipline.0-10 years of experience depending on role; we are hiring both entry-level and senior engineers.Demonstrated fluency with AI tooling: Claude Code, ChatGPT, prompt engineering, context engineering, agent orchestration.Solid grasp of algorithms, data structures, probability, and linear algebra.Proficiency in modern Python and web frameworks (FastAPI, React 19, Node, WebGL/WebGPU).Familiarity with OpenAI API, LangGraph or equivalent, vector databases, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) is a strong plus.Passion for geospatial tech, autonomy, or mission-critical systems. What We ValueGrowth mindset & intellectual curiosity.Strong written and verbal communication.Bias toward action and ownership.Comfort operating in a high-intensity, high-ambiguity environment with global impact.First-principles problem solving and a “builder” mentality that questions assumptions.High integrity, intelligence, and energy with hard evidence in track record (1–10 years at technical roles).Mission-driven obsession with Matter’s products and willingness to embrace high-performance norms (80+ hour weeks at times).Systems-level thinking that connects orbital/sensor data to downstream product and operational effects.Deep technical acumen, bridging product and engineering, with relentless “no-fail” execution and global-first strategy.Ability to anticipate operational bottlenecks, align cross-functional teams, and drive commercialization, partnerships, and process automation at scale.Obsessive attention to detail, exceptional problem-solving skills, and passion for excellence in craft.Benefits & GrowthCompetitive compensation and benefits.Dedicated mentorship and career acceleration.Opportunity to shape a frontier AI system that will influence planetary decision-making at scale.Ready to pioneer the future?
