Senior Mechanical Engineer – Mission Critical / Data Center Design (Remote) Salary Range $120-$175k Full-Time | Remote A leading global, multidisciplinary architecture and engineering firm is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its growing Mission Critical practice. This is a fully remote role for an experienced engineer who excels in data center mechanical design , technical leadership , and mentoring junior engineers . About the Role As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will take a key role in the planning and design of cutting-edge hyperscale and enterprise data centers , working closely with internal teams and industry-leading clients. You will provide technical leadership, oversee the full lifecycle of mechanical systems design, and guide a team of mechanical engineers and designers. This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with a high-performing group that delivers complex, large-scale projects across North America and internationally. Key Responsibilities Lead the mechanical design of mission critical/data center facilities, including cooling systems, HVAC, hydronics, and air distribution. Develop design documentation including calculations, system layouts, specifications, and equipment selections. Serve as the primary mechanical engineering contact for clients, project managers, and cross-discipline team members. Review and validate work completed by junior engineers and designers; provide mentorship and technical guidance. Participate in conceptual design, feasibility studies, and early-stage system modeling. Coordinate deliverables and ensure accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable codes and standards. Support construction administration activities, including RFIs, submittal reviews, site inspections, and commissioning support. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master's preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) or P.Eng. required (or ability to obtain within 12 months). 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience , ideally with a focus on data centers or other mission critical environments. Strong knowledge of mechanical infrastructure systems such as CRAH/CRAC, chilled water systems, DX systems, economization strategies, and energy efficiency principles. Experience leading engineering teams and providing mentorship. Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and mechanical modeling tools.
