Senior Workday Security Administrator

Position Summary The University of Virginia Information Technology Services (ITS) department seeks an experienced Senior Workday Security Administrator to lead the design, administration, auditing, and optimization of security within the Workday ecosystem. This role is responsible for maintaining a secure, scalable, and compliant Workday environment across HCM, Finance, Payroll, Recruiting, Benefits, and other functional areas. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Workday security architecture, domain and business process security policies, role-based security administration, risk mitigation, and cross-functional collaboration with HR, Finance, Audit, Compliance, and Integration teams. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and communication skills are essential for success in this role. This is a 2 year limited term position based on funding ResponsibilitiesDesign, configure, maintain, and optimize Workday security frameworks including role-based, user-based, intersection, and segment-based security groupsAdminister domain and business process security policies across Workday functional areasLead security administration efforts supporting HCM, Payroll, Finance, Recruiting, Benefits, Time Tracking, Absence, Procurement, Accounting Center, Prism, Extend, and IntegrationsPerform regular security audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviewsManage Workday access provisioning, deprovisioning, and segregation of duties (SoD) controlsPartner with Internal Audit, Compliance, and IT Security teams to ensure adherence to organizational and regulatory requirementsTroubleshoot and resolve Workday security issues related to reports, integrations, APIs, EIBs, RaaS, Studio integrations, and business processesParticipate in Workday releases by reviewing security enhancements, conducting impact assessments, performing regression testing, and implementing improvementsDevelop and maintain security documentation, governance standards, and operational proceduresMentor junior administrators and provide guidance on Workday security best practicesCollaborate with functional and technical teams on new implementations, acquisitions, and organizational changes Minimum Qualifications EducationBachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, or a related field ExperienceFour years of hands-on experience administering security within WorkdayStrong understanding of:Workday security architectureDomain security policiesBusiness process security policiesSecurity group designAuthentication and authorization conceptsExperience supporting Workday integrations and integration securityExperience troubleshooting security issues related to reports, calculated fields, and integrationsKnowledge of audit, compliance, and segregation of duties principles including SOX, GDPR, and HIPAAStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to stakeholders Preferred Qualifications ExperienceExperience with:Workday ExtendWorkday PrismWorkday Accounting CenterWorkday OrchestrateExperience working within healthcare or higher education environmentsExperience leading Workday security redesign or transformation initiativesFamiliarity with identity management and SSO technologies including:OktaAzure ADSAMLMFA CertificationsWorkday certifications in one or more of the following:SecurityHCMIntegrationsFinancials Physical Demands This position primarily performs sedentary work using standard office equipment and requires the ability to communicate effectively with others. Salary Range The anticipated hiring range for this position is commensurate with education and experience. Position Type & Work Location This is an exempt-level, benefited position. This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement in accordance with UVA policy and department needs.
