This position does not have direct reports.\r\nKey Responsibilities\r\nServe as the primary advisor to HR Business Partners and site leadership on labor and employee relations matters.\r\nLead complex workplace investigations involving employee misconduct, policy violations, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, ethics concerns, and other sensitive employment issues.\r\nConduct thorough investigations, document findings, and provide recommendations that minimize organizational and legal risk.\r\nProvide guidance on disciplinary actions, corrective actions, performance improvement plans, suspensions, and terminations while ensuring consistency and legal compliance.\r\nInterpret and administer collective bargaining agreements and advise leadership on contractual obligations and labor practices.\r\nSupport labor negotiations by preparing data, analyzing proposals, developing strategies, and partnering with Legal and leadership teams.\r\nManage grievance administration through investigation, resolution, and documentation.\r\nPartner with HR Business Partners to resolve complex employee relations issues and build manager capability.\r\nProvide coaching to leaders on conflict resolution, difficult conversations, performance management, documentation, and employment law.\r\nMonitor labor relations trends and identify proactive strategies to improve employee engagement and reduce workplace conflict.\r\nDevelop and deliver training on labor relations, workplace investigations, respectful workplace practices, progressive discipline, and employment law compliance.\r\nEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including:\r\nNational Labor Relations Act (NLRA)\r\nFair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)\r\nFamily and Medical Leave Act (FMLA)\r\nAmericans with Disabilities Act (ADA)\r\nTitle VII\r\nEEOC regulations\r\nPartner with Legal Counsel on litigation support, agency responses, audits, and employment claims.\r\nMaintain accurate documentation and case management records.\r\nAnalyze employee relations trends and metrics to recommend continuous improvement opportunities.\r\nSupport organizational initiatives while fostering a respectful, inclusive, and legally compliant workplace.\r\nQualifications\r\nMinimum of 7 years of focused experience in labor and employee relations, plus progressive HR experience.\r\nManufacturing experience required; chemical manufacturing preferred.\r\nDemonstrated experience conducting complex workplace investigations.\r\nStrong working knowledge of labor and employment laws, including NLRA, ADA, FMLA, FLSA, Title VII, and EEOC regulations.\r\nExperience advising leaders on employee relations, disciplinary actions, performance management, and terminations.\r\nExperience partnering with Legal Counsel on employment matters.\r\nExcellent interviewing, investigative, documentation, and report-writing skills.\r\nStrong conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation skills.\r\nAbility to manage multiple high-priority employee relations cases simultaneously.\r\nStrong analytical and critical thinking skills.\r\nAbility to maintain confidentiality while exercising sound judgment and professionalism.\r\nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.\r\nExperience with HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite.\r\nEducation\r\nMaster's degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Industrial Relations, Organizational Development, or related field.\r\nSHRM-SCP or SPHR certification.\r\nExperience supporting unionized manufacturing environments.\r\nExperience participating in collective bargaining negotiations and grievance arbitration.\r\nLean or continuous improvement experience.\r\nPay Range: $103,000 - $139,000\r\nThe salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.\r\nBenefits\r\nDiscretionary Bonus\r\nMedical, Dental, and Vision Insurance\r\n401K with Match\r\nProfit Sharing\r\nPaid Time Off (PTO)\r\nShort-Term and Long-Term Disability (STD / LTD)\r\nDependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA)\r\nHealth Savings Account (HSA)\r\nAdoption Assistance\r\nReactions – Recognition Program\r\nEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)\r\nCompany Overview\r\nStepan is a global specialty and intermediate chemical manufacturer that has been serving a broad range of industries for over 90 years.
