This includes developmentally appropriate behavior intervention strategies, activities and instructional techniques to support children’s individualized needs. This will be done in multiple quality early childhood education environments for a diverse population of children aged 0-5 years. Provides support and guidance to classroom staff and volunteers. Works with the Mental Health Manager to identify any concerns utilizing screening tools and through classroom observations. Participates in behavioral planning meetings. Maintains a Mental Health resource list for all counties served with Mental and Behavioral Health resources for children and adults. Provides training to staff both individually and in group settings. Guides program staff in a collaborative effort to promote a positive nurturing environment. Maintains positive working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and families. Follows all Head Start Performance Standards, Agency and Program policies and procedures and other applicable Federal and State regulations to successfully accomplish Agency and Program goals and objectives. Adhere to agency confidentiality policy with respect to information and records concerning children, families, and staff. Maintains professional and ethical standards in accordance with agency policy, code of conduct and legal requirements.\nESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:\nDirect Service – Education (75%)\nActs in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and Federal, State and Local regulations pertaining to the safe and healthy operations of a child care center.\nFacilitates and participates in implementation Head Start Mental Health services which include Pyramid Model Practices.\nFacilitates trainings and workshops during pre-service and in-service.\nAssists with identification of possible mental health supports for classrooms and individual children.\nSupports classroom staff in the implementation of Child and Family Consultant recommendations.\nDevelops and conducts trainings individualized for classrooms that need additional supports. Models strategies for teachers, and provides reflective feedback.\nSupports classroom staff to develop individualize plans/activities based on child’s strengths and areas of growth.\nParticipates in Student Study Team Meetings as required.\nCollaborates with other service areas to provide families with individualized supports based on needs.\nFacilitates opportunities for children to socialize, interact and cooperate with one another.\nConsults regularly with staff on progress of children with behavioral concerns.\nSupports developmentally appropriate activities that promote social/emotional and cognitive growth for children which enhances overall approaches to learning.\nModels successful early childhood teaching strategies and techniques and encourages positive interactions among staff, children, and parents.\nInforms and encourages parents of family engagement opportunities related to social emotional development and/or behavioral health.\nParticipates in setting and achieving professional career development goals.\nSupports the Agency Safety Program.\nOther duties as assigned within the scope of position classification.\nDirect Services- Training and Data Collection (25%)\nActs in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards in meeting health, mental health,\nServes as an interpreter and/or advocate when necessary for Head Start parents, including translation at SST Ensures all mental health requirements including observations, are met according to agency timelines.\nDocuments in child file for all content areas and contact with families and is completed thoroughly and legibly.\nSupports coordination of mental health/behavioral health services, referrals, follow-up and transition services.\nProvides education resources to families\nLinks families to appropriate community resources and completes referrals as needed.\nConducts home visits as required to support individual family partnership agreements.\nSECONDARY FUNCTIONS:\nCollects and submits to supervisor well-written monthly data related to screenings, observations and classroom support provided.\nAs needed, interprets for families and Head Start staff at SST meetings.\nFlexibility to adjust schedule and expectations to the needs of the staff and children\nAttends trainings & conferences as assigned.\nOther duties as assigned within the scope of position classification.\nMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Statement from Performance Standards\nLEVEL II\nAssociate Degree in Early Childhood Education or in the field of Psychology, Mental Health, Social Work or, Human Services, with a minimum of 24 Early Childhood Education units in which 12 must be CORE ECE units and 3 infant and toddler units.\nOne years’ experience working for social services or mental health related agency.\nEducation must have previously included or must be able to successfully complete course work in child abuse, substance abuse and domestic violence within one year of date of hire.\nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:\nAbility to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.\nAbility to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.\nAbility to write routine reports and correspondence.\nAbility to speak effectively before groups of parents or employees of organization.\nBilingual/biliterate (English/Spanish, English/Hmong or English/Punjabi) and/or other language ability may be required based on program needs.\nAbility to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
