Medical Records ClerkCADENT GBMC Baltimore - Baltimore, MD 21204OverviewSalary Range $20.00 - $22.00 Hourly Level Experienced Position Type Part Time Education Level High School Travel Percentage NoneDescriptionThe Medical Records Clerk is responsible for maintaining, organizing, and processing patient medical records in accordance with practice policies, HIPAA regulations, and applicable healthcare standards. This role supports providers, clinical staff, and patients by ensuring timely and accurate handling of medical records requests, documentation, and record management.Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesProcess incoming and outgoing medical records requests in a timely mannerMaintain confidentiality and security of patient health information in accordance with HIPAA guidelinesScan, upload, index, and organize patient records within the electronic medical record (EMR) systemRespond to patient, provider, and third-party requests for records, imaging, sleep studies, referrals, and other documentationMonitor and manage medical records message pools and work queues dailyEnsure records are complete, accurate, and properly documented in the EMRVerify appropriate authorizations and releases prior to releasing protected health informationCoordinate with clinical and front office staff to obtain missing documentation when neededAssist providers and staff with locating records and supporting continuity of patient careHandle incoming faxes, records requests, and outside medical documentationMaintain organized filing systems for electronic and/or paper records as applicableFollow established workflows and turnaround expectations for records processingAssist with audits, compliance reviews, and quality improvement initiatives as requestedProvide excellent customer service to patients, providers, and outside facilitiesKnowledge, Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirementsStrong organizational and time management skillsAbility to prioritize tasks and manage multiple requests simultaneouslyStrong attention to detail and accuracyProfessional verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamProficient computer and data entry skillsFamiliarity with EMR systems preferred (eClinicalWorks/eCW preferred)Ability to maintain professionalism in a fast-paced healthcare environmentQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredPrevious medical office or healthcare administrative experience preferredExperience handling medical records, referrals, authorizations, or EMR systems preferredKnowledge of medical terminology preferredPhysical RequirementsAbility to sit, stand, and walk for extended periodsAbility to lift and carry files or office supplies up to 20 poundsFrequent use of computers, phones, and office equipmentWork EnvironmentThis position operates in a professional medical office environment and requires frequent interaction with patients, providers, and staff while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times.Additional ExpectationsMaintain reliability and punctualityDemonstrate professionalism and teamworkAdapt to workflow and operational changes as neededSupport practice goals through effective communication and organization
