Be part of a mission-driven organization where your work truly makes a difference-in a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.\nSummary:\nProvides technical support to Plant Operations and has overall project management responsibility for a variety of wastewater treatment process control/optimization initiatives.\nPosting Period: 07/22/2026 - 08/04/2026\nLocation: Deer Island (Winthrop), MA\nSalary: $116,439.41 - $163,072.97 annually; $2239.22 - $3136.02 weekly\nWork Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm\nKey Responsibilities\nConducts process control studies with the objective of identifying process and/or equipment modifications which would improve process performance to include chemical and/or energy use optimization initiatives. Manages the implementation of modifications as directed.\nManages the design, implementation, modification, and application of control strategies and physical process modifications for assigned plant processes.\nAssists with the checkout and startup of new process equipment and systems. Performs field investigations and develops corrective action plans for process control problems that arise during plant operation.\nCoordinates with operations personnel the requirements for the collection and analysis of operational data related to the development of process control strategies.\nAssists in the determination of operating capabilities, reliability and associated performance criteria for existing and proposed wastewater treatment processes.\nCoordinates control system development and implementation with Engineering, Operations and Maintenance staff as required.\nProvides process related, site-specific technical training to applicable operations and maintenance personnel as required.\nConducts evaluations of existing and proposed process equipment and instruments. Prepares cost/benefits analysis for the use of equipment or instruments in improving process performance.\nProvides process control and operations reviews of reports and designs prepared by engineering consultants as well as Authority engineering staff.\nManages the Deer Island stormwater monitoring program.\nManages assigned Deer Island bulk chemical and service contracts.\nProvides support for the maintenance and updating of the DITP Integrated Contingency Plan as directed.\nEvaluates assigned employees' performance in accordance with MWRA policies.\nProvides on-call emergency and routine assistance to support the group's objectives.\nPerforms related duties as required.\nRequired Qualifications\nA Bachelor's degree in chemical or environmental engineering, or other related field; and\nAt least seven (7) years of experience in water/wastewater process design, control and troubleshooting to include major equipment/process startups;\nOf which a minimum of three (3) years was in a supervisory, project management, or managerial capacity; or\nAny equivalent combination of education and experience.\nA valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operators License or driver's license from another state.\nMassachusetts Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade VI certification, or ability to obtain within one (1) year.\nOn-call or standby coverage may be required on occasion as needed for plant emergencies or for other purposes as directed.\nPosition may be eligible for teleworking up to two days/week.\nKnowledge and Abilities\nDemonstrated understanding of the types of mechanical equipment (pumps, compressors, etc.) typically found in a wastewater, power or process environment to include applications theory, operational characteristics, and performance evaluation.\nExperience with automated (computer and/or PLC based) control systems to include logic development, tuning and troubleshooting.\nKnowledge of wastewater process control theory, practices and principles.\nComputer fluency to include the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and related PC based software.\nDemonstrated written and verbal communication skills.\nTools and Equipment Used\nOffice machines as normally associated with a professional office environment, including the use of telephones, personal computers, typical office software, email, videoconference applications, copiers, scanners, and fax machines.\nPhysical Demands\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
