Network Engineer

Overview Our client is seeking a Network Engineer to support enterprise network operations and contribute to ongoing network modernization and lifecycle refresh initiatives . This role sits on a Tier 1 network team and is ideal for someone who enjoys troubleshooting, improving network performance, and working in a fast-paced, ticket-driven environment.You’ll play a key role in maintaining reliable connectivity across a large enterprise while supporting upgrades and modernization of network infrastructure. What You’ll Do Network Support & Operations Provide Tier 1/2 network support by triaging and resolving connectivity issues across LAN, WAN, and wireless environmentsTroubleshoot Layer 2/3 networking issues, wireless performance, and general infrastructure incidentsManage daily ticket queue support as part of a 4-person rotationMinimize escalations to Tier 2 through strong troubleshooting and ownership Network Engineering & Modernization Support enterprise routing, switching, firewalls, and wireless platformsAssist with network upgrades, refresh projects, and hardware lifecycle initiativesParticipate in testing, validation, and deployment of infrastructure changesSupport SD-WAN connectivity and routing policies as needed Lifecycle Management Coordinate and execute hardware refreshes and decommissioning effortsMaintain accurate documentation of inventory, configurations, and dependenciesPartner with procurement, vendors, and field teams on upgrades and deployments Collaboration & Communication Partner with IT teams to diagnose and resolve cross-functional issuesCommunicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholdersContribute to continuous improvement of network processes and documentation Required Qualifications 2–5+ years of network engineering/support experienceStrong troubleshooting skills across routing, switching, LAN/WAN, and wirelessExperience supporting enterprise network environmentsUnderstanding of network security, segmentation, and best practicesAbility to manage and prioritize ticket queues effectivelyStrong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionallyMust be located in Southeast Wisconsin Preferred Qualifications Experience with Juniper or HPE networking (Layer 3 routing/switching)Familiarity with Aruba wireless environmentsExposure to Palo Alto firewalls and/or HPE SD-WAN (nice to have)CCNA (or equivalent experience)Experience in multi-vendor environmentsKnowledge of ITIL or change management practicesExposure to automation or template-driven network management Team & Schedule Part of a 4-person Tier 1 Network teamShared responsibilities for:Daily ticket queue coverageMonthly on-call rotationHybrid model: in-office Tuesday & Thursday Key Skills Network Engineering Routing & Switching Cisco/Juniper/HPE LAN/WAN Wireless Firewalls SD-WAN Troubleshooting Infrastructure Support VPN What We’re Looking For Strong ownership mindset and ability to solve issues independentlyA customer-focused communicator who works well with IT and business teamsSomeone comfortable in a high-volume support environmentA proactive learner interested in modernization and continuous improvement Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brookfield, WI. Pay And Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
