This position is recognized as a technical specialist with an in-depth knowledge in focus area. The focus of this position may include serving as an internal consulting resource to other professionals on projects throughout the company. Working closely with the Project Manager in charge of the project, the position may identify and develop the scope of work, meet customer expectations, assist in pricing contracts, perform engineering services, oversee project quality, identify resources and manage them relative to a specific project, and meet project deadlines and profitability goals. Position may be expected to serve as the Engineer of Record on project plans and documents.\n\nThis position has a focus in traffic projects. Project work will include: traffic studies, modeling and design.\n\nResponsibilities:\n\nEssential Functions & Responsibilities:\n\nActs as a technical specialist in transportation projects.\nDevelops plans and specifications for state and municipal transportation projects.\nWill focus on roadway, drainage, and traffic signal design work.\nPerforms traffic analysis/traffic studies as needed.\nUtilizes Microstation and OpenRoads or AutoCAD and Visum or Syncho.\nWrites technical reports and conducts conceptual design studies.\nProvides internal technical advice to project managers throughout the company for the purpose of preparing proposals and developing client presentations.\nCollaborates with a project manager with project planning and provides technical guidance on the development of the project scope, concepts and strategies to be used, task organization, estimates of effort, fee structure and amount, risk management, the identification of other required resources, and schedules necessary to complete the project. Collaborates with the development of cost and budget estimates for the project.\nDirects, manages and participates in the production of the project deliverables, up to and including signing and sealing of work products as a Registered Professional Engineer. Performs or participates in some or all of the following:\nPreliminary studies, plans and cost estimates\nPlan, oversee, and develop final report for studies\nDefinition of and oversight of design process\nDesigns and plan production\nConducting project status/review meetings\nSpecification and contract document development and production\nBidding and contract award\nContract Administration oversight\nMonitors and maintains quality on all facets of the project deliverable\nPerforms site investigations and prepares report(s) documenting existing conditions.\nProvides input to the project manager and/or others regarding the monthly project accounting process, including review of time and expense charges to projects.\nIn coordination with the project manager and team leader, oversees and directs the assignments of engineers and technicians assigned to a project.\nDevelops and fosters an open environment encouraging communication and collaboration among team members assigned to a project. Provides constructive performance feedback to project team members and coaches to improve performance.\nProvides performance information on all project team members to the team leader, Delivery/Marketing leader or project manager.\nStays abreast of new engineering trends, techniques, strategies, philosophies and methods. Participates in professional organization(s) in the engineer’s area of expertise and/or client focus. Maintains professional licensure in the states required by the company.\nRegularly analyzes specific issues on project manager’s project to recommend solutions that are efficient and cost effective.\nMeets with vendors of equipment on a technical basis with project managers and project teams as directed.\nSelects appropriate materials and equipment for the project application, accounting for desired performance, costs, and operation and maintenance considerations.\nManages engineering work and interfaces with other disciplines as needed.\nTypically handles multiple projects for multiple clients simultaneously.\nVisits clients and job sites as needed to support project(s) and business development needs.\nServes as consultant on transportation projects during construction phase.\nTypically works with complex, difficult projects that could also be large in focus and complexity.\nQualifications:\n\nKnowledge, Skills, Abilities:\n\nEffective communication skills (verbal and written)\nExcellent listening and reading skills, including proofreading\nEffective problem solving and decision making skills\nStrong interpersonal skills to develop and maintain client and employee relationships\nAbility to lead, train, and mentor others\nKnowledge of highway design standards, DOT design policies and plan preparation criteria\nPractical Knowledge in use of Highway Capacity Manual, Roadside Design Guide, MUTCD, and AASHTO Standards\nSelf-awareness: Knowing one’s strengths and limits with a strong sense of one’s self-worth and capabilities\nSelf-regulation: Keeping emotions in check; trustworthy; taking responsibility for personal performance; flexibility; innovative\nCustomer service orientation\nCollaborative\nAbility to negotiate\nAnalytical and critical thinking skills\nAbility to achieve business results\nStrong organizational skills and the ability to maintain appropriate amount of detail\nDemonstrates a high degree of creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing and problem analysis and resolution\nStrong proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook\nProficiency in Microstation, Visum, AutoCAD, Civil 3D\nAbility to embrace new technology and processes including learning other software programs as needed (Synchro, Deltek Vision accounting and project planning software, Client Relationship Management software, etc.)\nExhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership\nGood time management skills with ability to handle complex deadline driven workload\nAbility to work independently and within a team successfully\n\nEducation:\nBachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related engineering field required.\n\nExperience:\n\n8+ years engineering experience in transportation and P.E. licensure required. Knowledge/experience of Microstation, Geopak/Inroads, AutoCAD/Civil 3D strongly preferred. Must obtain professional licensure in the states required by the company as soon as possible.\n\nTravel Expectations:\n\nMust be able to travel in-state and out-of-state on occasion, which usually would consist of visiting other office locations, project sites, attending seminars or business meetings. Minimum travel is 20% of the time depending on projects. Certain positions will require more travel.
