This role may include but is not limited to 24/7 monitoring and control of the Company’s natural gas distribution systems, storage and transmission assets to ensure safety, reliability and efficiency.\n\nDuties and Responsibilities\nSafely and reliably operate the natural gas system(s) through a SCADA system.\nResponsible for adjusting supplies through use of remote-control regulators and valves as needed to maintain sufficient system pressures and flow.\nRemotely control and monitor company equipment which may include but is not limited to regulator set-points, control valves, RCVs, odorant injection, compressors, boilers and heaters in order to maintain maximum safety and efficiency of the system.\nPrepare and submit reports to various departments and personnel within the Company.\nResponsible for monitoring, analyzing and responding to SCADA alarms and the recognition of unusual conditions that do not generate alarms while notifying appropriate personnel.\nCoordinate appropriate and timely response to system emergencies and other operational problems that could result in unsafe conditions and possible service outages.\nMaintain safe operational practices as described in the Control Room Management Plan.\nProvide on-going training and performance monitoring of new system controllers in the use of the SCADA system and the safe operation of the system(s)\nComplete annual training relating but not limited to: Fatigue Management, Operator Qualification, Information/SCADA Security, Intra-Departmental Cross-Training.\nAll other duties as assigned.\nEssential Characteristics\nAbility to communicate effectively with others inside and outside of the Company.\nPossess the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.\nAbility to read and work from engineering drawings, pipeline maps, and procedures.\nAbility to pass random drug testing.\nAbility to demonstrate and master the core and job category competencies, and essential characteristics applicable for this role within the organization.\nAbility to work/lead in an ethical and safe manner and support the company’s values.\nAbility to lead by example in support of the Company’s essential characteristics and values: strong ethics and integrity, dedication to a safe work environment, commitment to a diverse workforce that recognizes and respects every individual’s unique skill and perspectives.\nAbility to adapt in a fast-moving and changing culture.\nStrong interpersonal skills with the proven ability to build and establish rapport with a diverse array of people.\nAbility to work independently and under pressure to manage time effectively in order to meet individual goals and deadlines.\nSupervisory Responsibilities\nNone\nRequired Education (certifications, licenses)\nHigh school diploma required\nFormal technical training with an Associate’s Degree or higher preferred\nRequired knowledge, skill and abilities\nOne to three years of applicable work experience in the natural gas or petroleum industry preferred.\nOne to three years of computer experience with proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software, especially Excel\nPrior experience using SCADA system software with the ability to program and troubleshoot computer problems preferred.\nKnowledge of API RP 1165, API RP 1168 preferred.\nKnowledge of basic physics, chemistry, gas pressure regulators, gas flow measurement and related gas industry terminology\nMust be compliant with all federal and state regulations.\nPhysical demands, environment and schedule\nWork is performed in a 24/7 control room environment with frequent distractions that require concentration, multitasking, and decisive appropriate actions in the performance of duties.\nRequired year-round 12 hour rotating shift work schedule including days, nights, weekends and holidays.\nOccasional 8-hour shifts may occur.\nSuch work is accomplished in compliance with Company and Federal Control Room Management guidelines.\nPosting Requirements\n\nSpire accepts online applications through our career site at jobs.spireenergy.com\n\nPosting requirements: The above posting description is intended to describe the general nature of the level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.
