CRH operates with a decentralized, diversified structure, letting you work in a small company environment while having the career opportunities of a large enterprise.PRIMARY FUNCTION: An Asphalt Distributor Operator typically performs a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the work flow dictates. An Asphalt Distributor Operator consists of operating an asphalt distributor by applying specialize emulsions to roadways, which are then covered by a chip spreader. The operator is responsible for setting the pace for the paving operation. This position will report directly to the Paving Foreman. Class A/Class B CDL Required! This is a union position - Successful candidate may become part of the local 14581 Steelworkers Union (if not already a member) if they so choose.POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Drives and operates distributor truck equipped with tank to spray asphalt emulsions on road surfacesConnects hose from storage tank to truck tank and moves lever to fill pressure tank with asphalt liquidRegulate burner to heat liquid and start auxiliary pumpSnap or screw on spray bars to attain required width of sprayTurn valve to regulate flow of material at specified rate and adjust levers to adjust height of spray bar from road surfaceMonitor flow gages, tachometer and temperature gauge to insure uniform distributionPerform daily safety checks of fluid levels on oil, water, fuel and inspections for leaks and damage to machine before operationResponsible for daily maintenance of equipment to remain in proper and safe working orderResponsible for notifying supervisor if equipment needs to be repairedUnderstand and execute different emulsionsShifts may vary according to projectEnsure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task; Properly follow all company policies and OSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment; Report any problems to your manager; Properly follow all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment; Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently; Ability to follow verbal and written instruction. Ability to communicate effectively. Excellent interpersonal skills; and Perform any other general duties as specifiedMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; and one to two years related asphalt and road construction experienceCommercial Driver License (CDL) A or B with N-tanker & X-hazmat endorsementThorough understanding of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt pavingPass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background checkPass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physicalBe able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration documentDisplay a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all timesReport to work at the designated start timeMust be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
