About The PositionThis recruitment is limited to the first 150 applications received, and will close without notice upon receipt of the 150th application, even if it is prior to the posted closing date.This examination will establish an Open Competitive and Promotional list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months.Some positions may be filled at Spring Mountain Youth Camp located at Angel Peak, 45 miles outside of Las Vegas. It is the responsibility of the employee assigned to SMYC to get to and from work. Employees assigned to SMYC receive an additional $200 a pay period in remote pay.Minimum RequirementsEducation and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year of full-time experience working with and caring for juveniles, preferably with at risk juveniles; OR College level course work in Criminal Justice, Child Development, Psychology, Social Work, Education, related behavioral science, or degree related to the work may be substituted for the experience on a year-for-year basis.Minimum Age: Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age at time of appointment.Working Conditions: Work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. Work in violent, traumatic or highly charged emotional environments. Specified positions may be assigned to a remote work site at high elevation. May be subject to exposure to blood and air borne diseases.Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C Driver's License at time of appointment.Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of physical examination performed by our examining physician.Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.Background Investigation: Employment is contingent upon the results of a background investigation.EXAMPLES OF DUTIESPersonally and electronically monitors juveniles in residential facilities; patrols buildings and grounds. Conducts and records bed checks; reports unusual situations to professional staff. As experience is gained, may perform lead Juvenile Detention Assistant responsibilities as needed. Receives and gives procedural directions to incoming juveniles; prepares space and supplies for juveniles. Observes and reports unusual or inappropriate behavior and emergency situations to professional staff; ensures the safety and security of assigned juveniles; provides aid and calls for medical assistance. Release and prepares youth for transportation. Escorts youth to various locations. Receives and directs persons entering property of facility for authorized purposes. Restrains juveniles, as needed, using approved physical and mechanical restraint methods. Completes forms, keep records, maintains files and writes incident reports relating to the owrk performed. Drives a motor vehicle to transport juveniles to appointments and other facilities.Other Duties And ResponsibilitiesContributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. May assist professional staff with direct supervision, intake procedures including strip searches. Performs light housekeeping, laundry, and custodial duties.PHYSICAL DEMANDSMobility to work in a typical juvenile institutional residential setting, drive a motor vehicle in order to transport juveniles to appointments and other facilities; stamina to stand and/or walk for an extended period of time, and strength to restrain and/or eject individuals; vision to use standard office equipment and read printed materials including a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
