Its design incorporates extensive research into best practices in building and workplace design through extensive benchmarking of the world’s top academic, research, and corporate facilities.\n\nLearn more about what we do in Houston here.\n\nWhat role you will play on our team\n\nProvide technical laboratory support in the areas of metallurgical research and failure analysis.\nWhat you will do\n\nWork in a team environment while independently conducting materials research projects and failure analysis.\nCollaborate with research engineers and affiliates to develop lab objectives and testing plans.\nApply metallographic and microscopic techniques (optical and SEM) to facilitate microstructural analysis.\nConduct hardness, micro-hardness, and field hardness testing techniques.\nPerform NDE (i.e. PT, MT, UT) inspection methods in support of research and failure analysis efforts.\nCarry out sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing and etching of metallurgical samples.\nConduct direct cause failure analysis using standard laboratory methods to determine failure mechanism and material characterization.\nMaintain lab equipment, lab supplies, and lab spaces.\nPerform routine calibration, cleaning, and maintenance of instrumentation\nFollow laboratory safety procedures, chemical hygiene plans and PPE requirements\nComply with quality management systems (e.g., ISO, GLP, internal QC standards)\n\nAbout you\n\nSkills and Qualifications:\nB.S. or M.S. degree in materials science or metallurgy\nMinimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience in a Material Science/Testing Lab with a high degree of mechanical aptitude with equipment troubleshooting skills\nAttention to detail and the ability to follow proper lab procedures and uphold good housekeeping practices in lab\nWillingness to be involved in research that is highly exploratory in nature and may support programs within division and affiliate organizations\nGood communication skills for understanding and describing scientific observations, experimental plans and results, equipment and material design concepts\nAbility to quickly learn new tasks and integrate them into workflows\nOrganized, punctual, and takes full responsibility for laboratory procedural compliance and safe laboratory operations including equipment maintenance, chemical and supply ordering, chemical inventory, safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals\nEffective in a team working environment, enjoys challenges, and committed to lifelong learning\nStrictly adhere to SOPs for different methods and workflows\n\nPreferred Qualifications/ Experience:\nProficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.\nAble to work and learn in areas or disciplines that differ from educational/work experience.\n\nYour benefits\n\nAn ExxonMobil career is one designed to last.
