Part-Time Pattern Maker
Reports to: VP of Product Development/Director of Product DevelopmentPosition OverviewWe are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented in-house Pattern Maker to join our Los Angeles atelier. You will be responsible for translating design sketches into accurate patterns that ensure proper fit, quality, and consistency. This role requires a professional who can bridge the gap between creative design intent and commercial production feasibility.Key ResponsibilitiesPattern Development: Create first through production-ready patterns across tailoring, outerwear, and daytime sportswear categories. This role requires expertise in traditional tailoring and garment construction, as well as the ability to interpret sketches and reference images to develop new silhouettes through draping and pattern manipulation.Collaboration: Work closely with Design and Technical Design teams to interpret sketches and technical specifications.Fitting & Refinement: Participate in live fit sessions, making real-time adjustments and applying fit corrections to ensure the brand's signature fit standards are met.Production Readiness: Ensure all patterns are optimized for production, including accurate grain lines, notches, clear construction notes. Work with sample makers to achieve most efficient sewing methods for production. Coordinate with Technical Design for production releases.Technical Troubleshooting: Resolve complex construction or fit issues, consult on construction & simplification solutions for cleaner finishes and user-friendly resultsQualifications & SkillsExperience: Minimum 5+ years of pattern making experience in the contemporary womenswear market, 10-15 years preferred.Technical Mastery: Deep understanding of garment construction, draping, geometric visualization, and flat pattern making. Proficiency in marking patterns for placement prints and embellishments. Experience monitoring and applying fabric shrinkageSoftware Proficiency: Expert-level skills in Gerber, proficiency in Microsoft 365 Suite for email communications and Excel pattern cards. Adobe Illustrator for artwork placement a plus.Aesthetic Alignment: A keen eye for modern, polished silhouettes and an understanding of A.L.C.’s sophisticated, considered aestheticTeamwork & Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively partner with cross-functional teams and domestic/overseas factories. As a key member of our atelier, you will work closely with fellow pattern makers to ensure consistency, proactively solve construction challenges, and maintain a positive, solutions-oriented environment that thrives on feedback and collective growth.Education: Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design or Apparel Technology, or equivalent professional experienceThe compensation for this position ranges from $90,000 - $100,000. The rate of pay offered will be dependent upon candidate’s relevant skills and experience.
