The duty station will be at INTERDICT Science Center (ISC) in Ashburn, VA.\n\nThe primary responsibilities of the position will be to assess Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) Chemical Identification equipment for performance and suitability in both the laboratory and field environments. This will include writing test plans, collecting data, and writing reports on the findings. The chemist will collaborate with ISC while performing chemical equipment assessments and conduct chemical analyses and physical testing of materials, chemicals, physiological specimens, and other products. These details provide an opportunity to collaborate with other DHS and interagency components, including the Departments of Defense and Justice; experiment with emerging tools/technologies; and develop knowledge products that will inform data driven investment and policy for CBP's operational components.\n\nMust be a U.S. Citizen.\n\nMust be able to undergo and pass a background investigation. DHS/CBP Minimum T4 Background Investigation Required.\n\nResponsibilities:\n\nAssess COTS equipment for performance and suitability; primarily Chem ID equipment but may also include supporting assessments of other COTS technologies\nWrite and brief plans, results, and report on assessment findings to sponsors and stakeholders internal and external to CBP\nDevelop and conduct tests for chemical ingredients, substances, and materials\nAnalyze substances to determine their composition and concentration of elements\nUp to 25% travel required. Will include a mix of indoor and outdoor work for 1-2 weeks at a time to support data collection events at the laboratory(s), Forward Operating Laboratories (FOL)s, and Ports of Entry (POEs)\n\nRequired Qualifications:\n\nMust have a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or other relevant field\nMinimum 5 years of related experience\nStrong knowledge of laboratory technology, tools, and tests\nClear written and verbal communication skills to produce accurate reports and brief results to stakeholders\nSolid understanding of lab health and safety regulations\nExceptional analytical research skills\n\nPreferred Qualifications:\n\nActive Secret Security Clearance\nCompleted Background Investigation\nAdvanced academic degree in relevant field\nTest & Evaluating Experience\n\nAbout Mayvin\n\nMayvin is more than a workplace—it’s a community built on innovation, ingenuity, and impact.
