This role is critical for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations, and delivering financial information and analysis to support strategic decision-making. The Accounting Manager leads a team of accounting professionals and collaborates with various departments to promote the organization’s financial stability and transparency.\nPrinciple Duties & Responsibilities:\nFinancial Accounting and Reporting:\nManage and oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger reconciliation, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, billing, cash receipts, and revenue recognition.\nEnsure timely and accurate recording of financial transactions in compliance with accounting principles, nonprofit standards, and internal policies.\nPrepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow) and reports for management, board members, and external stakeholders.\nConduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.\nBudgeting and Forecasting:\nAssist in developing the annual budget in partnership with department leaders and executive management.\nMonitor budget performance, analyze variances, and provide regular updates to leadership.\nCollaborate with program managers to ensure alignment between program budgets and strategic objectives.\nSupport the development of financial forecasts and long-term projections to inform decision-making.\nInternal Controls and Compliance:\nEstablish and maintain effective internal control procedures to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.\nOversee reconciliations, transaction documentation, and approval processes to ensure accuracy and compliance.\nEnsure adherence to nonprofit accounting standards, tax laws, and external reporting requirements.\nSupport annual audits, coordinate with external auditors, and address findings or recommendations.\nStay informed on evolving accounting regulations and update internal practices accordingly.\nGrant Management:\nManage the financial components of grant applications, including budget development, compliance oversight, and financial reporting.\nMonitor grant expenditures and budgets to ensure accurate tracking and proper use of funds.\nCollaborate with program managers and grant administrators to support effective financial stewardship of grant resources.\nTeam Management and Development:\nLead and support a team of accounting professionals by providing coaching, conducting performance evaluations, setting clear goals, and fostering a collaborative, inclusive culture that values accountability, open communication, and continuous development.\nOversee all aspects of team management, including recruitment, onboarding, training, task delegation, and conflict resolution, in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.\nContinuously assess and enhance accounting processes, systems, and internal controls to improve efficiency, accuracy, and service delivery.\nQualifications & Requirements:\nBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master’s degree or equivalent preferred.\nCPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation preferred.\nMinimum of 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience; experience in the nonprofit sector is preferred.\nStrong knowledge of nonprofit accounting, financial regulations, and compliance.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; able to interpret complex financial and legal data.\nStrong skills in preparing clear, concise financial reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.\nProficient in Excel, Word, and financial systems; experience with Sage Intacct and tools for reporting, project management, and scheduling.\nStrong attention to detail, with the ability to follow complex instructions and troubleshoot within structured environments.\nWillingness and ability to travel occasionally for training, workshops, or organizational needs.\nFlexibility to work varied hours, including some evenings and weekends.\nReliable transportation is required for work-related travel.
