Psychiatrist
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Prescribe, monitor and adjust psychiatric medications, considering their efficacy, potential risks, benefits and side effects, and the individual needs of the client.
Responsible for medical aspects of client care to include evaluating mental status, diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders.
Conduct psychiatric evaluations, assessments and diagnostic interviews using standardized criteria.
Provide crisis intervention as needed.
Provide family education and support to families and natural supports as outlined in the client's treatment plan.
Provide mental health consultation and coordination with external agencies and providers regarding client care as appropriate.
Respond to any other urgent or emergent needs of consumers as needed.
Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including therapists, case managers, nurses, group home staff and care coordinators, to ensure holistic consumer care.
Communicate any concerns, treatment recommendations and referrals to the treatment team as appropriate, to include notifying the front desk if a client's treatment plan needs to be reviewed and/or updated.
Conduct treatment plan reviews as assigned by the Clinical Director.
Maintain accurate and timely consumer records and documentation in compliance with Carastar Health, ADMH and CMS regulations.
Review and evaluate treatment procedures and outcomes.
Maintain current knowledge of best practices, evidence‑based treatments and psychiatric advancements through continuing medical education and professional development.
Ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures and ethical guidelines.
Review and approve other evaluations of clients as appropriate and required.
Authorize continued care of clients served by Carastar Health as appropriate.
Participate in client staffing as requested by the Clinical Director.
REQUIREMENTS
Strong clinical knowledge.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Awareness and sensitivity to diverse cultural backgrounds and needs of the consumer and population.
Proficiency in electronic medical records systems.
Willingness and experience to supervise nurse practitioners or other mental health professionals is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
Active and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Alabama. Board‑eligible or certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) is highly preferred.
Experience working within a community mental health setting or with individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) is advantageous and preferred.
Must hold a valid Alabama Driver's License and maintain a driving record that is acceptable to the agency's insurance carrier. Must maintain liability coverage on personal vehicles.
Must hold and maintain a current Red Cross First Aid, CPR and CPI Certificates (provided through the agency).
