Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting operations and oversee critical financial functions. This is a unique opportunity to step into a leadership role with direct mentorship and training from a retiring Controller who has been with the organization for over 40 years.Job Responsibilities: Oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, financial reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management. Prepare and deliver timely, accurate monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Manage and mentor a team of four direct reports across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and Reception. Maintain bank reconciliations, fixed asset records, depreciation schedules, insurance records, and line-of-credit activity. Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and funding requirements while providing accurate reporting to financial and bonding institutions. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations, reporting requirements, and filings, including W-2s and 1099s. Reconcile general ledger accounts and maintain over/under billing schedules. Coordinate annual audits, tax audits, and financial reporting with external auditors and accounting partners. Negotiate and maintain relationships with financial institutions and insurance providers. Establish, monitor, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to support sound financial decision-making. Oversee general liability insurance administration and claims management. Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to executive leadership regarding business performance and financial strategy.Requirements: Experience with Sage 300 or any Sage product is required Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred. 7+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience, preferably in construction, engineering, manufacturing, or project-based environments. Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, tax compliance, and internal controls. Experience managing accounting teams and developing staff. Proficiency with ERP/accounting software systems and Microsoft Office applications. Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism. Experience working directly with banks, auditors, insurance providers, and external financial partners. Self-driven, detail-oriented professional with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.Additional Information: Reports directly to the President. Four direct reports (AP, AR, Payroll, and Reception). 100% onsite position located in Auburn, Alabama. $10,000 relocation assistance available for qualified candidates.
