If you’ve ever looked at a P&ID in the field and thought, “Yeah… that’s not how this was supposed to be installed,” this role is for you.As a Senior Instrumentation & Controls Field Engineer, you’ll be the person who bridges design and reality—keeping instrumentation and SIS work aligned, safe, and done right at a chemical manufacturing site.Senior Instrumentation & Controls Field Engineer (SIS)Location: Luling, LAJob Type: Temp‑to‑Hire (W2)Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PMPay Rate: $60.00 – $65.00/hour negPosition OverviewProvide field-based instrumentation and functional safety engineering supportSupport capital and sustaining projects in a chemical manufacturing environmentServe as a field engineer during construction, commissioning, and startupSupport Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and functional safety initiativesKey ResponsibilitiesSupport instrumentation design and specification activitiesPerform instrument selection and control valve specificationDevelop and update instrument specification sheets, loop sheets, and wiring diagramsReview and mark up P&IDs, electrical schematics, and technical drawingsPrepare cable schedules, instrument indices, and material takeoffsPerform field walks to assess existing instrumentation and site conditionsSupport construction activities through field engineering and contractor oversightPerform QA/QC to ensure installations meet design, safety, and quality requirementsAssist with commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activitiesCoordinate instrumentation-related changes with the site DCS teamCommunicate progress, issues, and risks with project and site leadershipRequired Skills & QualificationsStrong hands-on experience with instrumentation systems in the fieldExperience working in chemical plants or refinery environmentsKnowledge of:24VDC, 120VAC, and 480VAC systems4–20 mA, 0–5 VDC, and 0–10 VDC signalsAbility to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, and technical drawingsStrong communication and documentation skillsAbility to work independently in a field-based roleMinimum RequirementsBachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related field)Minimum 8 years of instrumentation engineering experiencePrior field engineering or construction support experiencePreferred QualificationsExperience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)Knowledge of SIL, SRS, or IEC 61508Experience supporting PHA or functional safety programsWork Environment & Physical RequirementsWork performed at active chemical plant and construction sitesRequired PPE includes steel-toe boots, hardhat, gloves, and safety glassesAbility to climb stairs or ladders up to 4 ftCombination of field work and engineering documentationDriving limited to company-provided vehicles on siteWhy Work with PDS TechPDS Tech specializes in temp‑to‑hire engineering opportunities that give you the chance to demonstrate your value on the job while positioning you for long‑term placement.
