Join us.\n\nJob Description\n\nAECOM’s Water Business Line is seeking an Electrical Engineer to contribute to multidisciplinary teams that plan, design, and deliver water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and conveyance systems in the Denver, Colorado office.\nThe ideal candidate will support power, controls, and instrumentation design from concept through construction, helping communities ensure clean, reliable, and resilient water infrastructure.\nThis position is expected to begin as soon as possible.\nThe responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:\nDevelop electrical design documents for water/wastewater facilities, including single-line diagrams, load calculations, equipment layouts, panel schedules, cable/conduit routing, and grounding/lightning protection plans.\nAssist with motor control systems (MCCs, VFDs, soft starters), standby power systems (generators, ATS, UPS), and low-voltage power distribution.\nPerform short-circuit, protective device coordination, and arc-flash studies under supervision using industry-standard software.\nDraft and edit technical specifications, basis-of-design reports, calculations, and engineer’s estimates of probable construction costs.\nCoordinate with civil, mechanical, structural, process, and construction management teams to resolve design interfaces and deliver integrated packages.\nParticipate in quality reviews, submittal/RFI responses, shop drawing reviews, and field activities such as site assessments, factory acceptance tests, and commissioning support.\nContribute to digital design workflows in CAD/BIM environments and help maintain model and drawing standards.\nMaintain strong project documentation, schedule awareness, and effective communication with internal stakeholders.\nWork with local and national Electrical and Instrumentation & Controls experts.\n\nQualifications\n\nMinimum Requirements\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or a related field + None or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.\nDue to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required.\nValid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.\nPreferred Qualifications\nPrevious experience preferred but not required.\nFamiliarity with the NEC (NFPA 70); awareness of IEEE and NFPA 70E practices.\nEngineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months.\nInternship/co-op experience in water/wastewater, industrial power, or infrastructure design.\nExperience with AutoCAD, Plant 3D and/or Revit.\nExposure to Bluebeam or other PDF software for markups.\nExposure to power system analysis tools (e.g., SKM, ETAP, EasyPower) for short-circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies.\nFamiliarity with PLCs/HMIs, SCADA concepts, and common industrial communication protocols.\nUnderstanding of AWWA and ISA standards relevant to water infrastructure and instrumentation.\nStrong verbal and written communication skills\nAbility to support the preparation of instrumentation and controls deliverables: I/O lists, instrument datasheets, panel layouts, control narratives, and P&IDs in collaboration with senior controls engineers.\nSupport SCADA architecture definition and integration with PLC/HMI systems in collaboration with senior controls engineers.\n\nAdditional Information\n\nRelocation assistance is not available for this position.\nThis position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Denver, Colorado.
