Direct Support Professional (DSP)At Hands of Heartland, we believe that people with developmental disabilities are people first. We will always place the person before the program striving daily to embody the message our name states.Hands of Heartland is looking for compassionate and caring individuals to join our team and provide support to the individuals we support as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) for the Omaha day centers. Hours are Monday through Friday 8a-4p.Location: Omaha, NE (Spaulding and Ames)What You'll Do in Summary: Work directly with individuals with developmental disabilities in a variety of settings to ensure they have a meaningful life. As a DSP you will assist individuals with day to day living activities and developing skills in a community setting.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Responsible for creating a safe, positive, and encouraging atmosphere for the people we supportProvide services to address the wants and needs of people with developmental disabilities, which may include:Supporting personal goalsFacilitating activities that provide people with socialization and connections to the communityEngaging participation in recreation, social, and skill-building activitiesTransporting individuals to appointments, community outings, or other destinationsAssisting with activities of daily living, such as, feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, etc.Reinforcing therapies, including speech, behavioral support, and physical therapyAdministering medications and other medical treatment as delegated by an HOH nurseMaintaining knowledge of each person's specialized needsEnsure each individuals' rights are protected and they are treated with dignity and respectEnsure documentation is completed accurately and in a timely manner, including but not limited to individual plan data, behavior plan data, community integration logs, assessments, individual funds requests, mileage logs, maintenance requests forms, and supply acquisition formsKeep day center interior and exterior clean, organized, and tidyComplete all other duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills & Abilities:Ability to handle a variety of situations and personalitiesMust maintain confidentiality and protect individual rightsAbility to always project a caring and professional imageProven skills in communication, observation, problem solving, and time managementAbility to work independently in a fast paced, team-oriented environmentFlexible and willing to adapt to changeKnow the value of communicationDesire to support people and encourage them to reach goalsUnderstand the importance of documentationAbility to work independently in a fast paced, team-oriented environment.Flexible and willing to adapt to change. Sound Judgement.Requirements:Must be at least 18 years old.Must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance.Must be able to pass all background checks.Preferred Requirement: Experience working with behavioral individuals is preferred although we will train you!Pay: Starting pay is $16 an hour.
